Waiting on Wednesday (#117)

You know the story. This is a meme created by Breaking the Spine and every week we pick books we're waiting for. Here are our picks for this week.

Glass' pick

From New York Times bestselling author Megan Hart comes a haunting and insightful novel about a woman trying to find her place in the world…

Brought up in the savage captivity of her unstable grandmother's rural Pennsylvania home, Mari Calder once yearned for rescue. Now she struggles every day to function as an adult in the confines of normal society. Left with only a foggy recollection of her childhood, she's consumed with being a dutiful wife to her husband, Ryan, and mother to their two children.

But an unexpected twist of events returns her to that long-forgotten house in the woods. Soon, Mari is greeted with reminders of a past life, the clarified memories only inviting a new level of strangeness into her fragile world. To protect her family, she must find the beautiful, powerful strength hidden in her inner chaos. Because someone is bent on exploiting Mari's trauma, and as normal and wild begin to blend, a string of devastating truths force Mari to question all she thought she knew.

Tanja's pick

A TREMBLING EARTH
The flames of civil war sweep across the Shima Imperium. With their plans to renew the Kazumitsu dynasty foiled, the Lotus Guild unleash their deadliest creation—a mechanical goliath known as the Earthcrusher, intended to unite the shattered Empire under a yoke of fear. With the Tiger Clan and their puppet Daimyo Hiro in tow, the Guild marches toward a battle for absolute dominion over the Isles.

A BROKEN REBELLION
Yukiko and Buruu are forced to take leadership of the Kagé rebellion, gathering new allies and old friends in an effort to unite the country against the chi-mongers. But the ghosts of Buruu’s past stand between them and the army they need, and Kin’s betrayal has destroyed all trust among their allies. When a new foe joins the war tearing the Imperium apart, it will be all the pair can do to muster the strength to fight, let alone win.

A FINAL BATTLE
The traitor Kin walks the halls of Guild power, his destiny only a bloody knife-stroke away. Hana and Yoshi struggle to find their place in a world now looking to them as heroes. Secret cabals within the Lotus Guild claw and struggle; one toward darkness, the other toward light. And as the earth splits asunder, as armies destroy each other for rule over an empire of lifeless ash and the final secret about blood lotus is revealed, the people of Shima will learn one last, horrifying truth.

There is nothing a mother won't do to keep her children by her side.

  1. I'am so used to reading YA paranormal book that i dont even consider there might be an Adult in the same genre. What an interesting premise ill will definitely check Lovely Wild when it comes out. And i keep bumping in the Lotus War everywhere. it seems like epic fantasy. is it really that epic?

  8. I haven't heard of Lovely Wild though the cover is--no pun intended!--lovely. Endsinger, however, is a novel I'm looking forward to. I haven't read Kinslayer yet, though I clearly need to, but I'm curious to see what you'll make of it, Tanja! Wonderful picks, ladies!(:

  15. Glass: Ooh, I hadn't heard of Lovely Wild before this, but it sounds great! Usually I'm not too big on adult books because they get kind of boring (and I have low patience, lol), but this one looks like it'll actually be good. I can tell Mari's character goes through quite a lot, which is always good for the character development, imo. Also, the cover is gorgeous!

Thanks for putting it on my radar, hon!

Tanja: KINSLAYER!!! So I still need to read Endsinger, but I really enjoyed Stormdancer, so it's only a matter of time before I get to the rest of the series. So glad you're looking forward to the last book, too! And the cover. THE COVER. Jay Kristoff has some of the most badass steampunk covers in the market. <3 Let's hope this last book doesn't disappoint!

    Amazing picks, you two!
