Quote of the Week: Burned by Karen Marie Monning

We haven't wrote for a while now, but after our last week's buddy read, there is one quote that caught our attention and we just had to share it with you.

Fact: you can never know another person completely.
Fact: you are born alone and die alone.
Fact: there si no such thing as safety. Only vigilance, determination to survive, and a willingness to be ruthless about it.
Fact: love is not perfect.
Fact: neither am I.

Quote of the Week: Unravel by Calia Read

This is yet another book which I have decided not to write a review for. Reasons are simple: a) Glass has already done it and b) I have no idea how to do so. Instead I'll try to persuade you with some quotes I've found really inspiring and wonderful. Hope you'll enjoy them!

But with the right person, everything will align perfectly. The world stops turning on its axis, time slows and you realize that while you're losing a piece of yourself, you're also gaining something in return. What they give you fits you just right.

And another one

Tomorrow, I'll accept that in order to unravel my story, I'll be destroyed first. Like the frozen water drop, its inevitable that I break.

Quote of the Week: Lovely, Dark and Deep

I won't write a classic review for this book as my girl Glass has already done it perfectly few months ago. That's not the only reason as I can talk about book regardless of the thousands and thousands of its reviews. But the other reason is that I always run away from poetry, considering it as something superficial and profound, without the possibility that my poor brain will ever understand it. Well, until I started college and my lit classes which tough me exact opposite.

When I started reading this book I understood that it's not the coincidence that it has this title. So I'll share a poem, which is extremely dear to me and from which, I assume, this title is taken from:

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

(Quote of the Week) Bloodfever by Karen Marie Moning

I read whole Fever series by Karen Marie Moning in one week and I was left speechless - that is probably one of the best urban fantasy series I have ever read. I am counting days until next novel. Today I decided to share one of my favorite quotes from the second novel, Bloodfever.

"I don’t know where dreams come from. Sometimes I wonder if they’re genetic memories, or messages from something divine. Warnings perhaps. Maybe we do come with an instruction booklet but we’re too dense to read it, because we’ve dismissed it as the irrational waste product of the ‘rational’ mind. Sometimes I think all the answers we need are buried in our slumbering subconscious, int he dreaming. The booklet right there, and ever night when we lay our heads down on the pillow it flips open. The wise read it, heed it. The rest of us try as hard as we can upon awakening to forget any disturbing revelations we might have found there."

Don't be shy and tell me what do you think? Do you agree with this? Are we, humans, so afraid of everything that we can't explain that we push it away in this little black box called "irrational"?  And what about our instincts? Have you ever found yourself in the situation when you just knew that something was wrong or that you should do something?

Quote of the Week: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

So, I finally read The Fault in Our Stars and I'm happy because of that. Today I have to share some of my favorite quotes with you, but to be completely honest, I think I highlighted at least 60% of the book.

"I believe the universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is improbably biased toward the consciousness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it-or my observation of it-is temporary?"

"Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book."

Quote of the Week: If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch

Hello all. I've read one wonderful book a week or so ago and because its wonderful writing I know it's the best to share some quotes with you. I hope you'll see the beauty in it. I also hope to write a review for If You Find Me soon, as I need to find my words. But first quotes:

“We make attachments to what's familiar. We find the beauty, even in the lack. That's human. We make the best of what we're given.”

“Funny how we can't hold onto time, even when it's strapped to our wrists”

"If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But, the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you."

Quote of the Week: And We Stay by Jenny Hubbard

Hey all. Recently I have read a book called And We Stay and from my review you could see that I wasn't the biggest fan of the book I must say that it had one poem that truly fascinated me. I love it. So I thought why now share it with you. So here it is

Conception
She laid herself down in the velvet
of dark, the thing chirps of crickets
in the field outside the window,
the window he had opened,
the window he believed in.
When he lay down beside her,
the boy whispers truths
into the palm of her hand.
Do not leave, he said.
Do not go. Never cut me
out; if you do you'll feel
a sadness true as the trees.

He kissed her lifeline
and sealed his secrets there.

Quote of the Week: Just one Year by Gayle Forman

Hi darlings. So day I have a few quotes to share with you. I believe you all have heard of this book and you're eagerly wanting to read it (if you already haven't) then why not share some of the masterful writing which we all know Gayle Forman posses. My review for this book will be up soon. In the meantime here are the quotes:

"Sometimes fate or life or whatever you want to call it, leaves a door a little open and you walk through it. But sometimes it locks the door and you have to find the key, or pick the lock, or knock the damn thing down. And sometimes, it doesn’t even show you the door, and you have to build it yourself. But if you keep waiting for the doors to be opened for you... I think you’ll have a hard time finding single happiness, let alone that double portion."

"Loving someone is such an inherently dangerous act. And yet, love, that’s where safety lives."

Quote of the Week - Azure by Chrystalla Thoma

I had opportunity to read Azure by Chrystalla Thoma because of my other blog, Way Too Hot Books, but I think this beautiful story would find its fans here too. I am especially excited because it is book written by European author. I'd like to share two of my favorite quotes with you today.

"Love isn't something you find everyday. Finding someone that makes you laugh and cry and fret and smile, someone who can make you happy is rare. Like, really rare. It can happen a couple of times, or only once in your life, or even never."

"She'd just chill out and read. She'd brought along a promising novel and she'd sit on her balcony with the view of the sea and sink into the story. Sink deep and lose herself in someone else's life. Characters in novels tend to have adventures that ended happily. It gave her hope."

Quote of the Week - Glass's Quote Mix

One of the reasons all of us like to read is all the wisdom and power messages we find in our books. They make us think about certain things we never new could happen or recognize some of our own thoughts.
Today I will do something little bit different. We usually post our favorite quotes from recent reads, but this time I want to share with you few of my favorite passages talking about identity. Who am I as a person? What defines me? Is my "normal" same as your "normal"?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7818683-five-flavors-of-dumb

"Don’t worry about wanting to change; start worrying when you don’t feel like changing anymore. And in the meantime, enjoy every version of yourself you ever meet, because not everybody who discovers their true identity likes what they find."

Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12842115-just-one-day?ac=1

"You're just trying on different identities, like everyone in those Shakespeare plays. And the people we pretend at, they're already in us. That's why we pretend them in the first place."

"I realize then that its not enough to know what someone is called. You have to know who they are."

" This is myself, baby. All of my selves. I own each and every one of them. I know who I'm pretending to be and who I am." The look he gives me is withering. "Do you?"

Just One Day by Gayle Forman

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13640210-saving-june
"I gaze out at the glittering sea, the breathtaking sky above it, and think of birds and the moment before the fall, and how my sister as a child had been strong enough for the both of us, and I wonder when exactly that changed. I don't know when, but it did. Jake was right - I'm strong in a way June never was. Because I know that I want to be here. Even with the pain. Even with the ugliness. I've seen the other side - marching side by side down city streets with people who all believe they can change the world and the view of the sunset from Fridgehenge and Tom Waits lyrics and doing the waltz and kisses so hot they melt into each other and best friends who hold your hand and stretching out underneath a sky draped with stars and everything else. There is so much beauty in just existing. In being alive. I don't want to miss a second."

Saving June by Hannah Harrington

"Normal is an ideal. But it’s not reality. Reality is brutal, it’s beautiful, it’s every shade between black and white, and it’s magical. Yes, magical. Because every now and then, it turns nothing into something."

Harmonic Feedback by Tara Kelly

Quote of the Week: The Brides of Rollrock Island

A week ago I have reviewed Margo Lanagan's The Brides of Rollrock Island and then I told you about her beautiful writing. So to prove you that I need some evidence, right? I've got some qoutes and I hope you'll like them. Actually only two because there is no stopping me if I go on.
For the first time in my life had been beautiful, and lovable, whether Potshead people thought so or not. I felt cleansed of the rage and misery that had made up so much of me in pettier company, in prettier. I felt freed to please myself, to find my way as I would, in a world that was much vaster than I had realized before, in which I was put one star-gleam, one wavelet, among multitudes. My happiness mattered not a whit more than the next person’s – or the next fish’s, or the next grass-blade’s! – and not a whit less. How piddling I was, in the general immensity! And how lovely it was to be tiny and alone, to have quickened to living for a moment here, to be destined soon to blink out and let time wash away all the mark and remembrance of me.
and the second one..
All the years to come crowded into that time, and I lived them, long and bitter and empty of him.  The rightness of what I had done, and the wrongness both, they tore at me, and repaired me, and tore again, and neither of them was bearable.
I hope that you'll discover Margo's beautiful style sometime soon.

Quote of the week: Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

It's been a while since I've done this post. I can blame it on the lack of my free time but quite honestly nothing that I've read lately made me stop everything and sit down and write this post. But yes it has happened now. I want to share a very special book and lovely quote with you. This time it's only one but it means more to me than some book would.

I like to think that nothing's final, and that everyone gets to be together even when it looks like they don't, that it all works out even when all the evidence seems to say something else, that you and I are always young in the woods, and that I'll see you sometime again, even if it's not with any kind of eyes I know of or understand. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the way things go after all - that all things end happy.

You can check my review for Tiger Lily too. I wanted to post more of this quote but then it'd spoil some things for you. I guess you'll have to read the book then ;)

Waiting On Wednesday (#42)

You know the story. This is a meme created by Breaking the Spine and every week we pick books we're waiting for. Here are our picks for this week.

Glass' pick

The worldwide phenomenon continues as Eva and Gideon face the demons of their pasts, and accept the consequences of their obsessive desires…

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…

Expected publication: June 4th, 2013

Tanja's pick

Life is hell for Persephone. Zeus will stop at nothing to gain access to the living realm and the Underworld, and as the only living god with a right to both, Persephone’s in trouble. Captured and tortured beyond the limits of her resolve, Persephone must find the power to stand against Zeus. But will she be strong enough?

Meanwhile, Hades contemplates desperate measures to rescue his queen. Persephone never thought of herself as dangerous, but there’s a reason gods never marry for love. A being with the power to destroy all of creation shouldn’t place more value in one individual than the rest of the planet. But Hades...Hades would break the world for her.

To save the world and stop both Hades and Zeus, Persephone must make a difficult choice. One that may cost her everything.

Expected publication: May 17th, 2013

We'd love to see your picks so feel free to link them up.

Quote of the Week: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Few days ago I posted my review for The Fault in Our Stars but I really couldn't live without posting some quotes. I mean I'd quote the whole book as it is. After long debating which quotes I should post and which not I've got this. Enjoy.
Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.
Another one
You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world...but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.
I can't stop myself
As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.
One more
Grief does not change you, Hazel. It reveals you.
Now you should go and read the book.

Quote of the Week - The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I read this book a while ago but I actually never wrote a review for it. But you can still find Glass' review for it on our blog. The thing with this book is that it's full of lovely quotes. If I could I'd quote the whole book. Here are some of my favorite quotes.
So, I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.
Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn't stop for anybody.
It's just that I don't want to be somebody's crush. If somebody likes me, I want them to like the real me, not what they think I am. And I don't want them to carry it around inside. I want them to show me, so I can feel it too.
Until the next time,

Quote of the Week: Falling For You by Lisa Schroeder

Hi people. Well I just wanted to share few quotes with you. I owe you review for this book too, well dear book welcome to the club. I hope I'll catch up with my reviews this week. In the meantime enjoy the quotes. They're from the book called Falling For You and it's by Lisa Schroeder.

Circumstances shape who we are and who we become. I believe that. But I also believe we have choices. There are always choices.
Your parents may have created you, but they don't define you.
Maybe, just maybe, a reader would feel a little less alone in the world.
