Quote of the Week - The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa

Expected publication: October 23rd, 2012

Author's Website / Blog / Twitter

Hi all! This is actually something my girl Glass does, but well you will survive with my picks *winks* Basically I'll share with you my fave quote this week. So I picked one scene actually, one of my favourite from The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa. If you wanna check my review of this book you can o it HERE! Enjoy!

Quote:

I hit the ground on my stomach, biting my lip as the gym bag landed on my shoulder and sent a flare of pain up my arm. Beside me, I heard Kenzie’s breathless yelp as she thumped to the dirt and lay over, gasping.

“What… what in the hell?” she panted, and I heard her struggle to get up. “What just happened? Where are we?”

“Well, well,” answered a cool, amused voice from somewhere above us. “And here you are again. Ethan Chase, your family does have a knack for getting into trouble.”

Maybe I like to tease you a bit, but what can I say, some characters you cannot wait to see. Hope you all get this book soon!

Until the next time,

Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Book summary:

Dying sucks-- and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.

However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

It's not a secret that I'm big fan of Jennifer Armentrout. I really, really like her books, especially Covenant series. So I was so excited to read this one.

Few weeks ago I saw a competition on Jennifer's blog and the task was to answer the question about how would I find a way to touch someone I loved if my touch killed? So I guessed that has something to do with this story and I was thrilled to see what. The book really was about it. Here we have Ember the girl who dyed and came back to life after her sister used her gift. But her sister didn't only bring her back but also gave her a gift or a curse how would Ember say it. Since that accident her life turned upside down. She was no longer the same, therefore her friends abandoned her, but her mother as well. She had to struggle and take care of her sister all by herself. Until once her gift killed another person. Soon her family is taken away and they were joined with some other gifted people. Only difference is that Ember didn't fit in. She wasn't born special and she couldn't control her power. But there is one person will to help but to do so she has to trust him. Not an easy task when you doubt his family.

Cursed was an interesting and fast read. I enjoyed some part of it, but I couldn't feel the same things I felt while reading Covenant and Lux series. I wasn't a wreck after reading it as I usually would be. There wasn't that big mystery about bad guy and some parts were predictable. Still I like this story and I'd recommend it to all of you, but I know that Jennifer can do, and she actually have done much better than this. BTW, I saw some reviews where people said about continuing this and making a series. I wouldn't go there cause this book is good as it is, there is no need to push it further.

Until the next time,

The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa

Expected publication: October 23rd 2012 by Herlequin Teen

Author's

Book summary:

Don't look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them. That is Ethan Chase's unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he'd dare to fall for.

Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister's world—the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for Ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.

It's not a secret that I love Iron Fey series. Well there is no way that I wouldn't love something made to look like fairy tale with teens in it. It's simply the kid in me (and trust me that's really big part of me) who loves all parts of Nevernever. I don't have to tell you how happy I was when Julie decided to write a spin-off!

Then it was on NetGalley and Herlequin being awesome, as they are, approved me. You can only imagine how thrilled I was. But before I tell you my impressions can I ask you all for a favor. If you're planing on reading this beside reading Iron Fey first you should really read those short novellas, especially Iron Prophecy in this case. Now when we settled that let's move to the Lost Prince.

You all remember little Ethan don't you? That little kid who started all of it and bough Nevernever to us. You do....well let me tell you something that little man is not so little anymore. Few years after everything that happened we're back into Chase house, only this time Meghan is not around and now Ethan has a story to tell. For years he's been trying to deal with all the consequences, all by himself and it's not an easy task. Losing his sister he didn't have other choice than to blame all the fey world. That wasn't easy when you're one of those people who can actually see them. Even though not all fey is the same but one thing they have in common, they all want people to see them and when they realize that you can see them, well you won't have a nice time. Even thought he avoided fey world as much as he could circumstances made him go back to the realm and not just him but two of his friends as well. That's where the magic happens.

Being back to Nevernever is something special. Even though the story rolls around Ethan you still get a chance to catch Ash, Megan, Puck and of course furball, who could forget him. This book was really good and I really enjoyed. Ethan's POV was at some points much better than Meghan's. Still deep down I believe this story will become even better. I have no doubts in that. I cannot wait to go back into Nevernever.

Until the next time,

Book summary:

In 2015, a race of alien Others conquered Earth. They enslaved humanity not by force, but through an aggressive mind control that turned people into contented, unquestioning robots.

Except sixteen-year-old Althea isn’t content at all, and she doesn’t need the mysterious note inside her locket to tell her she’s Something Else. It also warns her to trust no one, so she hides the pieces that make her different, even though it means being alone.
Then she meets Lucas, everything changes.
Althea and Lucas are immune to the alien mind control, and together they search for the reason why. What they uncover is a stunning truth the Others never anticipated, one with the potential to free the brainwashed human race.
It’s not who they are that makes them special, but what.
And what they are is a threat. One the Others are determined to eliminate for good.

First I should tell you that this is dystopian book (yes later I saw that 2015 in blurb - me being me). In case you're lame like me and don't check the book genre now you know. I was so surprised when I actually realized that cause I though this will be contemporary story and I have no idea why.

So after realizing where I was this story became so interesting. I was so pulled into it that I couldn't stop reading. This book was something new cause the thematic was new. I cannot tell you much cause you should figure it out all by yourself. But the whole mixture of elements and seasons and this story was so good.

Althea is young sixteen-year-old girl, who lives in a world that's normal for her. Her days are mostly routine. Getting up, breakfast, cell, going back home, homework, sleep and then all over again. Of course she does it all with a smile on her face. It all seems perfectly normal for her cause that's the only way of living.  Only thing is that she knows she is different. She knows she is not like others and it's not hard to figure that out. Besides she has never seen summer in her life. If you wonder how's that possible you'd be surprised.

All that made me like this book. Even that relationship between her and Lucas I could understand. I'd for sure love this book and gave it trillion stars but there is one problem. It reminded me too much of another series. So even things here were new and appealing I couldn't stop myself. Mostly I could guess what would happen. Still I don't mind that and I'd give this book 3.5 stars.

Book summary:

Althea and Lucas barely escaped the Others’ clutches in the autumn, and were separated in the process. Alone and on the run from the cruel alien race determined to exterminate her, Althea struggles to adapt and survive in a world she never imagined.
When a boy named Pax appears out of nowhere, he quickly recognizes Althea for what she is – a human/Other hybrid just like him. Althea begs him to help her find Lucas, but Pax refuses, intent on following his own mysterious agenda.

The Others’ presence continues to devour the planet’s resources, and if history is an indication, they won’t leave until Earth is destroyed beyond repair. Althea and Pax sense the only way to save themselves – and maybe their home – is to understand the powers simmering inside them.

Together they push the limits of their capabilities in the quiet Wilds, but are soon confronted with a terrifying fact: no place is safe from the relentless pursuit of the Others.
Least of all their own minds.

Winter Omens continues where Whispers in Autumn stopped. After all those complications Althea is left alone to figure things out. She has to find the way to survive in one place she always run away from - wilds.

But soon enough she meets someone new. His name is Pax and he is just like her. He doesn't fit in those two types of people. He is not an Other but he is also not like everybody else. Together they have to find a way to discover what lays behind. They travel and discover the world how it used to be, before Others came  and took control. But are their golds the same and how would they sort their priorities is another thing.

I really like this book, more than Whispers in Autumn. This relationship between Pax and Althea was more dynamic and more interesting to follow. Her relationship with Lucas was sweet and nice, but slow and at some point boring. Pax is different therefore the relationship is too.

To rate this one was hard. It's actually 4.5 stars.

Regardless on the ratings I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and somehow I believe that it'll blow my mind. We'll see in December.

Tanja's Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Series I Haven't Finished

Hi all. It's time for this week's Top Ten Tuesday, which is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. My task for this week is to pick ten series I haven't finished for some reason. Even though I rarely quit on some series still I believe I can find ten I haven't finished.

1. The absolute winner here is The Premonition series. I've read the first two and those two have the worst reviews I've ever wrote. Inescapable I survived, but Intuition killed me.

2. The Vampire Agape. I've read first book in this series and it simply annoyed me too much.

3. Next one is series called Celestra. I've read the first one and I really didn't like it. Too bad cause covers are beautiful.

4. Darke Academy is next one. To be frank I read first three because I found them at the library and they were short. Another thing our publishers need some better advisers (like me for example *hint*), cause the book they translate are too bad. There is too many good books, why they waste time on some like this one, I have no idea.

5. Brenna Blixen series is another one I haven't finished. I have no idea why, but I believe I'm too old for this one.

6. I can't believe but I almost forgot The Vampire Diaries. Hands down for the TV show, but books, no thank you.

7. First book in Souls series wasn't that bad, but it lack to impress me enough to continue with this series.

8. Shadow Unit series is another one that bites the dust.

9. I'm still thinking about Graceling Realm. I've read the first book, but we'll see about the next ones. If I find some time, maybe.

10. Last one is Women of Underworld. I'm not into this whole adult thing, but I've read the first one just because I had the book. Now the book is on some better place and I will maybe read this series one day.

I'd love to see your picks for this week. Leave the link in comments and I'll visit your posts!

Inbetween by Tara A. Fuller

Author's

Book summary:

Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.

First I want to apologize for being the worst street team member ever. I haven’t read the book while I was the part of the Inbetween street team, but well I finally read it now.

Inbetween was something totally different for me. I have read a lot of books that dealt with Heaven or Hell, but Inbtween was something new. So as you all know there is Heaven and Hell but there is also something in between, where our main character is stuck. There he meets a girl and everything suddenly becomes different. She is born again and after few years their ways cross again and so Finn once again has to make very important decision. What is the most important to him? Even though after he made that decision, some other souls want to hurt him, so Emma is in danger again and also Finn is in her life again.

Maybe it sounds like a typical boy meets a girl story, but it's really not. Cause the circumstances are unusual and you cannot put this story in the same place with them. Interesting thing in this book is dual POV, which is always good if you ask me. Another thing I like is mystery about the way they met. I like it cause it's explained later on.

As for my fave character I'd say Easton. He is also reaper from Hell, but I like his sarcasm and even though he is where he is, still he finds some space to see the bright side of all of this. I think Adam Gregory would fit as Easton!

I really loved this book. It had everything I could ask for. I could feel it, it had interesting and new story. Even though some parts were somehow too strange, I never judge it, cause this is fiction, so the sky is the limit. It could stay that way but last few chapters changed everything. I wish this book had ended few chapters before the real end. I’d love it more, cause different ending fits more here. But that’s only my opinion.

Until the next time,

23. ruj 2012.

Book summary:

I have spent every summer since I was ten years old with my father in London.  Every summer, since I was ten years old, has been uneventful and boring.
Until this year.
And this year, after a freak volcanic eruption strands me far from home, I have learned these things:
1.  I can make do with one outfit for three days before I buy new clothes.
2.  If I hear the phrase, “You’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto,” even one more time, I might become a homicidal maniac.
3.  I am horribly and embarrassingly allergic to jellyfish.
4. I am in love with Dante Giliberti, who just happens to be the beautiful, sophisticated son of the Prime Minister of a Mediterranean paradise.
5.  See number four above.  Because it brings with it a whole slew  of problems and I’ve learned something from every one of them.
Let’s start with the fact that Dante’s world is five light-years away from mine.  He goes to black-tie functions and knows the Prime Minister of England on a first name basis.  I was born and raised on a farm in Kansas and wear cut-off jeans paired with cowboy boots.  See the difference?
But hearts don’t care about differences.  Hearts want what they want.  And mine just wants to be Dante’s girl.
My heart just might be crazy.

Excerpt

There are rose bushes everywhere. And peonies, which are my favorites.  And lots of white marble statues of Greek gods.  And one of Napoleon.  Why in the world is this country so obsessed with Napoleon?
I am just wondering if the small statue is life-sized when Dante interrupts any coherent thought process that I might have by striding across the lawns with a racquet in hand and wearing short-short tennis shorts.
Sweet.
Baby.
Monkeys.
It’s like a slow-motion scene from a movie.  Dante shakes his blond bangs out of his eyes and the sun catches every glint of gold in his hair.  His legs are long, lean, tanned and muscled and HolyCowThereIsAGod.  If I were a man, I would totally be wolf-whistling right now.  But then again, if I were a man, I guess I wouldn’t be wolf-whistling at Dante.
I’m such a weirdo.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. Book summary:

New soul

Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

No soul
Even Ana's own mother thinks she's a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she'll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

Heart
Sam believes Ana's new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana's enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else's life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

This is one of those books that have been forever on my to-read list but somehow other books were always priority. I'm happy that I finally managed to find some space for this book. It'll be hard to say anything that haven't been said before, but let's try.

From the start this book has something that make you interested. I have read few books that have reincarnation as one part of the story, but a world in which all souls are reincarnated all over again, no. So hands down for uniqueness. The whole process of getting into the story is also one good aspect of this. The building of the story is created that way that you have feeling like the world becoming bigger. World grows in Ana's eyes and so the your knowledge of this book does. Beside reincarnation the author managed to put dragons and some other interesting creatures in this story and it all fits nicely. So respect for originality.

Now the part I had problems with. Well not problems, let's say they lack to impress. It's mostly all that has to do with feelings. This book has everything necessary when it comes to the imagination and magic, but when it comes to the love story it lacks emotions. It was all nicely expressed with words but those words didn't have emotions. All other emotions were there - fear, uncertainty, suspicion, and so on. Those parts of the story when Ana was afraid were much more intense and stronger than those where she discovered her emotions and love.

I thought about mentioning pacing as a problem. But I realized that pacing was good as mostly in dystopian novels the beginning is slower. That's not the problem when you can feel the book. All in all this book is imaginative and magical but I'd work on characters more. Who knows, maybe in the Asunder I'll discover new Ana.

Until the next time,

Waiting on Wednesday (#10)

Hello all! It's time for this week's Waiting on Wednesday. As you know it's a meme created by Breaking the Spine where every Wednesday we pick book that we cannot wait to read. Here is what we have for you this week.

Glass' pick

Bonnie and Clyde meets Simone Elkeles in this addictively heart-wrenching story of two desperate teenagers on the run from their pasts.

They’re young. They’re in love. They’re on the run.

Zoe wants to save Will as much as Will wants to save Zoe. When Will turns eighteen, they decide to run away together. But they never expected their escape to be so fraught with danger....

When the whole world is after you, sometimes it seems like you can’t run fast enough.

Nobody But Us, told in alternating perspectives from Will and Zoe, is an unflinching novel, in turns heartbreaking and hopeful, about survival, choices, and love...and how having love doesn’t always mean that you get a happy ending. Described as “beautiful, heartbreaking, and exhilarating” by Kody Keplinger, author of The DUFF, Nobody But Us will prove irresistible to fans of Nina Lacour, Jenny Han, and Sara Zarr.

Hi people! It's time for another Top Ten Tuesday, which is you know a meme created by Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday we pick ten things for certain task. This week my task is to pick ten bookish people I want to meet.

0.  There is more than ten bloggers who I'd like to meet and I cannot leave anyone behind, basically I'd like to meet all of you. So I decided to pick authors instead. Only there are three girls that are higher than first place. My BFFs Glass, Zrinka and Zemira. I love them.

Now top ten authors

1. Carlos Ruiz Zafon. What can I tell you. I worship this man.

2. Melina Marchetta. How my friend Zemira would say the Queen of contemps.

3. Richelle Mead. Do I really have to talk about this woman?

4. Jennifer L. Armentrout. Aiden! I don't need more, but she also created Daemon! She is also very nice and friendly to her readers, which I always appreciate.

5. Maggie Stiefvater. Someone who has such poetic writing style must be an interesting person.

I though about avoiding classic authors but I can't.

6. Edgar Allan Poe. I've heard a lot about his life but for me he was fascinating.

7. Jane Austen. I'd love to drink a cup of tea with her.

8. J.K. Rowling. Yes, she might not be old enough to be considered classic, but let's face it Harry Potter will live forever.

9. J.M. Barrie. So I could personally thank him for Peter Pan.

10. Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Without you my childhood wouldn't be complete.

I'd love to see your picks, so please share them with. Leave the link in comments.

Until the next time,

Book summary:

A DYING LAND

The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; an island nation once rich in tradition and myth, now decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, the land is choked with toxic pollution, and the great spirit animals that once roamed its wilds have departed forever.

AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST

The hunters of Shima’s imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger—a legendary creature, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows the beasts have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death.

A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a talent that if discovered, would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her.

But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

You all have heard amazing things about this one. I know, me too. I have nothing less amazing to say, I must admit. But I also don't see point in telling you that with repeating amazing all the time. So let me tell you a story.*wink*
After hearing all about how amazing this book is, only logical thing to do is to visit the NetGalley and request it! The same day I was approved. You can only imagine my joy! So then I started reading and I was like
every tenth word was a mystery for me. It's funny though how lately I got used to English more than my own language. So it reminded me of the time I started reading books in English and also that no matter how much I got better at that there was still bunch of things I had no clue about. Nah, well. So I put this book aside and read some other books. Until few days ago.
But do you wanna know what really made me pick this book again? All the amazing reviews. I read them and wanted to hit myself for not reading it earlier. So yes that was the reason that (long ago, in this kingdom by the sea...) made me finish this book. Besides publication date was close so..*grin*
I'll stop blabbing now and do some actual work here. There are books with slow and confusing starts and this is one of them. But as soon as you pass all those complications aka first 50 and something pages  you start enjoying this book. Because you can feel its magic. You can picture sea-dragons and thunder tigers and much more. But this is not only a story about magic and another culture, it's also a story about higher goals, about opening your eyes and seeing beyond what you've been thought. It's a story about getting over your fears and using your power. Most of all it's a story and world you haven't heard of before and at the end of all that it'll make you cry.
I must admit that I don't know much about Asia or any culture similar to this one so I have no idea if any of this is actually mentioned somewhere before. Truth to be told I'm afraid to do the research cause I want to to believe that Jay Kristoff really invented all of this. Because at the end of the day he can say
That's how you write something amazing and more than innovative. Something that deserves

*I know I used too many Sheldon gifs for one review, but I ain't even sorry.

Until the next time,
