Waiting on Wednesday (#16)

Hello my dear friends. It's another Wednesday and it means Waiting on Wednesday. It's a meme created by Breaking the Spine where every week we pick books that we cannot wait to read. Here is what we've picked this week.

Glass' pick

An action-packed tale of gowns, guys, guns –and the heroines who use them all

Set in turn of the century London, The Friday Society follows the stories of three very intelligent and talented young women, all of whom are assistants to powerful men: Cora, lab assistant; Michiko, Japanese fight assistant; and Nellie, magician's assistant. The three young women's lives become inexorably intertwined after a chance meeting at a ball that ends with the discovery of a murdered mystery man.

It's up to these three, in their own charming but bold way, to solve the murder–and the crimes they believe may be connected to it–without calling too much attention to themselves.

Set in the past but with a modern irreverent flare, this Steampunk whodunit introduces three unforgettable and very ladylike–well, relatively ladylike–heroines poised for more dangerous adventures.

Expected publication: December 6th, 2012

Tanja's pick

tick, tick, tick, tick, tick
it's almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

Expected publication: February 5th, 2013

We both picked

A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay

When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!

Expected publication: January 8th, 2013

As always we'd love to see your picks. So feel free to link them up in comments so we can visit your blogs.

Tanja's Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Favorite Kick-Ass Heroines

Hello. This Tuesday is again time for another top ten Tuesday. As you all know it's a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This week our task is to name ten books to get in the Halloween spirit. Just so you know we don't celebrate Halloween here so I'll just pick ten scariest books I know.

1. Alex from Covenant series. I love this girl. She is so kick-ass and funny and witty. I'd gladly switch places with her.

2. Rose from Vampire Academy. I've read this series a long time ago but Rose is really special.

3. Hermione from Harry Potter. Let's face it who didn't want to be her?

4. Elizabeth form Pride and Prejudice. She has Mr. Darcy so do I have to say more.

5. Tris from Divergent. She is very dear to me, cause I've seen her grow in the books.

6. Katniss form Hunger Games. This was my first dystopian book and Katniss will always be special for her strength.

7. Yukiko from Stormdancer. Imagine yourselves riding an arashtiora. I don't need more.

8. Calaena from Throne of Glass. Yes she is not perfect put she is a fighter and I love her for that.

9. Clara form Unearthly. She is part angel and she is really strong for her age.

10. And last but not least Katy form Lux series. We all book bloggers could find ourselves in her, only we don't have so good neighbors.

So I'd like to see your picks and you just have to link them up in comments and I'll check them out.

Until the next time,

Book summary:

Ourea has always been a deadly place. The lichgates tying the hidden world to Earth keep its creatures at bay—for now.

Kara Magari ignited a war when she stumbled into Ourea and found the Grimoire: a powerful artifact filled with secrets. To protect the one person she has left, she strikes a deal that goes against everything she believes in. But things don’t go as planned.

Braeden Drakonin can no longer run from who—and what—he is. He has to face the facts. He’s a prince. He’s a murderer. He’s a wanted man. And after a betrayal that leaves him heartbroken, he’s out for blood.

To survive, both Kara and Braeden must become the evil each has grown to hate.

Considering that I'd discovered Lichgates by accident my love for this series has been even more special. I had high expectations of Treason and I couldn't wait to read it. Well you can only imagine how happy I was with this book.

Being back in Ourea was special. Seeing the world and its magic again made me so happy. It was painful to wait all this time to see what would happen with Kara and Braeden, especially when I've started to really like them both. Kara is really strong and I must say powerful girl. Even though she still haven't found herself and even though she still felt pain for leaving her world she must be strong. The only person who was there for her all the time was the one she cannot have cause she cannot bear to lose him as well. Braeden wasn't happy for that be he must understand how it was for her. He did but he wouldn't give up, and for that boy you have got me!

It's hard to tell you more about the story cause I don't want to spoil anything for you. When you read Lichgates and discover this whole new world you'll be amused with its magic and power. Treason is different. I mean magic is still there don't worry, but here main characters grow and you meet them better. Trying to save Ourea is not so easy when you have such kings. The complicated relations between them and a lot of aspects will make you confused. You don't know who to trust. Mostly when you also have your family that don't care for you but only for power. They're your blood and in a world where bloodline means so much it's not easy to go against them.

Basically Treason picks up where Lichgates ends. Be ready for new adventures and also for new fights, not only those physical but also emotional. I loved every single page of this book. Boyce once again did amazing job. *standing ovations*

Quote Of The Week - If I Lie by Corrine Jackson

Buy the book at

Author's

I don't really have to explain what Quote of the Week is, right? Basically I post the quote (or quotes) that attracted my attention. This time for you I have a book that's still fresh in my memory as I've finished it yesterday. I hope you'll get to see my review soon and quotes you can now.

Quotes:

Sometimes a moment defines you, defines how people see you for the rest of your life. You can accept it or fight it. If you're lucky, you'll recognize the moment when it happens.

Some words hit you like a tree branch slapping you in the face. And some words rip into your flesh, leaving scars so deep, they never completely fade.

That's it for today. Have a nice day.

Until the next time,

{Blog Tour} Bad Juju by Dina Rae

Oh, welcome, friends! We have something special for you today - FMB Blog Tours is hosting blog tour for this scary book - Bad Juju by Dina Rae. It's perfect for Halloween. So, just to make you think about reading it, we have special excerept for you!

Book summary:

"Lucien Nazaire flees his Haitian homeland and meanders around the United States for decades.  He settles in a Wisconsin trailer park filled with elderly tenants.  He meets Jake, his teenage neighbor, and hires him for odd household jobs.  As their relationship progresses, Lucien invites the boy into the world of Voodoo.

Jake LaRue lives in foster care with his abusive uncle.  The Voodoo lessons give him a sense of power within an otherwise helpless situation.  Although the boy is a loner, he feels an instant connection with his classmate, Henry, and introduces him to Lucien.
Henry Novak has Asperger’s Syndrome.  He fixates on historical events, most recently the 2010 Haitian earthquake.  Like Jake, he becomes passionate about the dark side of Voodoo.  They learn how to cast spells on those they hate and lust, leading up to dire consequences.

Several months after the Haitian earthquake, Henry convinces his family to volunteer with their church in the island's reconstruction.  Their mission turns into a nightmare when he mysteriously walks off of the campsite.

Bad Juju is a balance of horror, romance, and literary fiction intended for ages fifteen and up.   Research about the Voodoo religion, shapeshifting, zombies, and possession and themes of redemption and loneliness emerge throughout the plot."

Excerept

Jake rolled out of bed and army crawled to the doorway.  Looking through the
opening that separated the door from the carpeting, he saw Leah’s head
bloodied.  She lay limp on the floor.  Pete stopped hitting her.  His whole
demeanor changed.  With a wolfish expression, he began to unbuckle his belt.
Rhianna’s screams got closer.  She must have darted to the other side of the
living room, putting her smack-dab in front of Jake’s bedroom door.  He could
now see her foot.  It partially blocked his view.  Shit!  Can’t get involved!
If I open the door…
“Pete, what the hell is a matter with you?  Stop it!  She’s passed out.  You
beat her into a coma, man!  And now you’re gonna…Sober up and think of what
you’re doing!  Right in front of your daughter!” T.J. yelled.

Is he suicidal?  Jake knew his uncle would make T.J. regret his words.  Like
Leah, T.J. was small.  He was filled with faults, but violence was not one of
them.  On perfect cue, Jake could hear his uncle’s bare fists hooking T.J. in
the jawbone.  Rhianna’s screams turned into full-blown hysteria.  The poor girl
was hyperventilating while desperately grasping Jake’s locked doorknob for
refuge.  I don’t want to be involved!  Go back to your closet and lay still!

“Jakey, Jakey, pwwweeeze!” Rhianna sobbed.
Jake couldn’t take her suffering any longer.  Quickly unlocking the door, he
grabbed the little girl and pulled her inside his room and then relocked the
door.
The living room had grown eerily quiet.  Jake had a difficult time hearing while
Rhianna wailed.  “It’s okay now.  Try to be quiet,” he whispered, straining to
hear.  Nothing but silence was on the other side of his door.  His heart rate
doubled.  Always quiet before the storm.  Was it over?  Or was I next?  He slid
on his gym shoes, took a can of Comet cleaner from his bathroom, and crept up to
the only window in the room.  It was small, but Jake knew he could fit through.
Then came the sound he was waiting for.  Click, click, click.  Pete was
delicately trying to open the door.  He now knew it was locked.
