Author Interview: Lisa M. Basso

Well I've realized that I don't do author interviews often so I must change that. Therefore today Lisa M. Basso is here. Here is something about Lisa:

An aspiring author just getting off the ground, reading, writing, learning, and searching for a literary agent. My first Young Adult novel, A Shimmer of Angels, releases January, 29 2013 with Month9Books. Stay tuned for more info on the Angel Sight trilogy.

First of all welcome to the Ja čitam, a ti? Thank you for this interview. We're happy to have you here today.

Thanks so much for having me!

1. I always ask this - but what or who inspired you to be an author? Was it something you always wanted to be or..?
- As a teenager I had no idea what I wanted to be - or even what I wanted from life - until a ninth grade reading assignment: S. E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. A book about teenagers with rough lives, packed with tough decisions and pain. I was hooked. Then I read the author had written the book as a teenager herself. I started writing not long after that.

2. Your debut book A Shimmer of Angles is a paranormal story about angels. Why angels? If I ever write a book (hardly) it'll be about angels too. :)
- At the time I first started writing A Shimmer of Angels, there were very few angel books on the market for Young Adults. That was a long time ago, I know. I also wanted to show a new kind of good versus evil, something with blurred lines and messy consequences. Because life isn’t clean. Living is a messy business.

3. The sequel A Slither of Hope is coming out next year, right? Can you tell us something about it (spoiler free please)?
- As of right now A Slighter of Hope is written, and with my editor, so anything could change. With that in mind, I still can’t say too much, except that Rayna will still be battling physical and emotional demons, some familiar faces will be returning, and some new characters will emerge. The good news is you should only have to wait until January 2014 to read it for yourself.

4. I'm always curious about this - do you already know how will you end this story or will you think of it when the time comes?
- When I write, every story gets a different process. Sometimes I plot, sometimes I don’t. When I wrote A Shimmer of Angels I don’t think I knew how the book would end until I wrote it. Plus, I rewrote the ending three times. Like I said, a lot can change in edits.

5. What's your favorite book or author? Is there some book you can recommend to us?
- Almost everything I’ve read the last few years has been Young Adult. I have several go-to authors. Jeri Smith-Ready (Shade series) is an incredible author with a gift for making the reader feel. Stephanie Perkins (Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door) writes characters that look and feel so real you never want to stop reading (and beg her to write faster). Holly Black (The Curse Workers series) writes books like nothing you’ve ever read before.

6. What do you do in your free time? Do you have some hobbies?
- When I’m not working at the day job or writing, I’m a huge TV and movie buff, plus when I can carve out the time, you can find me on the PlayStation3.

7. For the end do you have some favorite quote to share with us?
-I’d love to share one of my very favorite lines from A Shimmer of Angles.
“What would angel lips taste like? Sunshine? Marshmallows? Or something altogether different? Maybe buttered-popcorn jelly beans.”

Oh I remember that one. Thank you so much for the interview.

A Shimmer of Angles is the first book in Angel Sight trilogy.

Until the next time,

  5. Althoug the market's been full of them, I actually haven't read many myself so it should be pretty fresh to me. Like Jenny, I've had my eye on this book for a while now and I can't wait to read it, as soon as my schedule allows it.
Thanks so much for sharing the interview!
