Book summary:

" Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed."

I give up. It's been a while since the last time I read J. L. Armentrout and my only experience was Lux series. Obsidian surprised me and I liked it despite all Twilight similarities. Or maybe because of that. I don't think it would make the same impression now. I know that most of my friends liked her new adult novels, so I thought to give it a try. Do I regret that? Yes and no.

Things that I liked. First half of the book. Cam. Their interaction. Cam. Sunday breakfast. Cam... You get the picture. No one can say that J.Lynn doesn't know how to write the perfect guy or make you frustrated with all the hormones bursting from every page. But is that the only thing that I found appealing in this book? Pretty much.

Things I didn't like. Second half of the book. Avery. Avery's issues. The whole good girl/virgin thing. If you know me, there is nothing surprising with any of those. But here's the thing that cooled me off completely. I know that talking about topic of rape is really serious. I know that it's something that should be talked about. I am all for that, but what I hate is when something so serious is used on such a superficial way and because of drama-drama-drama. And if that wasn't enough, throw in an attempted suicide, gay best friend and promiscuous girlfriend. This is overflowing with all the new adult cliches - ones that annoy me. Avery acts like she is ten years younger than she actually is, she is goody two shoes and all the other girls are "easy" or "slutty". That is not the message I support in my books.

Not even Cam is worth it. Yes, I swooned. Can you blame me? But than I started thinking and I realized that it can't be valid reason for all the high ratings. Think with your head, not your ovaries.
But that is just me - if you enjoy reading books like Wait For You, go ahead. This is where I leave "J. Lynn/ Jennifer Armentrout" train.

Happy reading,

  1. Huh, this is one of the first negative reviews I've read for this book. I haven't read anything J.L. Armentrout but I have been meaning to. Not liking to sound of this slut shaming.

    Great review, Glass! <33

    1. Mel, you should probably stick to her paranormal novels.
Honestly, I've been thinking about should I even post this review because I didn't have a lot of good things to say, but honesty is what counts, right?
I really, really wanted to like it.:(
      Thank you, Melanie.

  2. Yeah, I really liked the Lux series too, but I haven't had much luck with JLA/J. Lynn contemporary. I'm sorry you didn't like it. I have a feeling it's going to continue to sit at the bottom of my TBR list for a long, LONG time.

    1. I am glad that I'm not the only one. I know that most of people love her contemporaries.

  3. Aw, sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy, but I know that JLA isn't for everyone

  4. I like your format for review and a lot of peeps have mentioned their struggles with Avery. I have this and despite how hot Cam is..I keep shoving it back into the TBR pile every time is surfaces..LOL

  5. If you decide to finally read it, I hope you'll like it more than I did. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good choice for me.

  6. Believe it or not I have never tried one of her adult novels and I might keep it that way for awhile. I agree wholeheartedly though that the woman does know how to write a good leading swoon worthy man. Darn her! :P

    Great honest review!!

    1. Thank you.
I've been going back and forth for a while now when it comes to her NA titles, but I'm glad that I gave it a chance. Now at least I know what to expect.

  7. Hah, why am I NOT surprised at all to see this review? I first read the Lux series 2 years ago and DNFed it. It's so much like Twilight while trying to make fun of Twilight and everything was just so ridiculous. I read in one review that JLA's books are pretty much the same rehash just with different characters. Not sure I want her guys, though. Daemon sucked for me even though he captivated many readers (hah, you don't fool me, you alien you!). Still, I'm glad you found him swoon-worthy. Who doesn't love swoons? Great review nonetheless!

      Thank you.

  8. I've not read any of her NA or Adult books. This is one that I've been wanting to check out, but it's not one that I'm dying to read. Great review :) I love the honesty!

  9. I actually like Jennifer L. Armentrout a lot. I love the Lux series but I wasn't a fan of this particular book and I don't care for her adult romance stories. They just lack a lot of something. Hopefully your next read is better! ;)

  10. Re-reading this one is going to make me hate myself isn't it? I am no longer a huge fan of JLA and her magic has basically worn off me so I find myself picking up on things I didn't pick up on before.

I am sorry to hear this didn't work out for you though since your friends did enjoy it.

    Great review, Glass!! :)

  11. I loved Cam, but had a lot of the same issues as you. I did read Trust in Me (Cam's pov) and enjoyed it so much more. Thanks for the review, Glass!

  13. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Wait for You, but I can see why you didn't like it even though I did. JLA's guys are always swoon worthy and it's hard not to like them, but yeah, Avery had some issues.

    1. I know that a lot of readers love her NA novels, but they are basically everything I don't like about that genre. Her guys are swoon worthy, but that's about it for me.

  14. Oh no! Its so sad that you didn't enjoy the book. I did enjoy it when I read it but that was a looong time back. I read Be With Me this year and was thoroughly disappointed. JLA is getting repetitive. Hope you enjoy your next read better. Thanks for sharing Glass! :)

    1. Yeah, she is one of those authors that go into "if you read one, it's like you read them all" category.

  17. I liked Cam a lot, but I also had issues with Avery and the way the whole rape situation was handled. I think I'm better off reading her YA, because even though a lot of them are similar, I usually enjoy them more than her NA. Great honest review!
