Book summary:
There are some things you can’t leave behind…
A broken-down camper hidden deep in a national forest is the only home fifteen year-old Carey can remember. The trees keep guard over her threadbare existence, with the one bright spot being Carey’s younger sister, Jenessa, who depends on Carey for her very survival. All they have is each other, as their mentally ill mother comes and goes with greater frequency. Until that one fateful day their mother disappears for good, and two strangers arrive. Suddenly, the girls are taken from the woods and thrust into a bright and perplexing new world of high school, clothes and boys.
Now, Carey must face the truth of why her mother abducted her ten years ago, while haunted by a past that won’t let her go… a dark past that hides many a secret, including the reason Jenessa hasn’t spoken a word in over a year. Carey knows she must keep her sister close, and her secrets even closer, or risk watching her new life come crashing down.
I'm not sure which books are harder to review. Those that you don't know how you feel about or those that crash your world and make you go through roller coaster of emotions. If You Find Me belongs to latter for sure, and for that that reason I have no idea how to review it.

This is a story about Carey, a girl who has been living in woods with her mother and sister almost all her life. Once their mother took them from civilization they nearly lost all connections with it and rare passers are only human beings that they see. At the other hand nature is their home, they are one with it and they know its secrets and beauties. Nature gives them what they need and in exchange they belong to it. Only parts of worlds development they see through little things their mother brings them when she goes to the city. That way Carey is capable of learning Jenessa basic things - like reading and speaking, even though she is not found of the latter and Carey is the only person Janessa speaks to. Being bond together Carey is determinate to keep her sister close and when  the girls are taken to outside world that shocks them to the core.

From the story you can see that this book is full of emotions. It's hard not to cry your hart out when you see how much Carey is strong and adult in fact, when she is only fifteen. Life taught her lessons early in life and she never got to be a normal teenager. Especially after she thinks she failed in one things she cares for the most.

The author created a great characters and their development and transition is something greatly pictured that you never question things and you can easily imagine their feelings. This book is a story about family, struggle and relationships - building and crashing them.

Rating: 5 stars.

Until the next time,

  1. I absolutely loved this read as well. It was pretty emotional and I found it hard to review as well. Sometimes those ones that sneak up on you and really hit you in the heart are those that are hardest to express your feelings about.

  2. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Tanja! I know many readers have really connected with this book but no matter how many glowing reviews I read, I seem to lack any interest in this story. Maybe Murdoch's next novel will capture my interest!

  4. I love those emotional, intense reads. They can be hard to talk about because the reason you love them is so hard to explain, but you did a good job!

  8. See! This is the kind of emotional read I can get down with. Still powerful. Still painful. But no one's bff or boy/girlfriend dies of cancer. Great review! I can't wait to read this for myself.

  10. I'm so happy you loved this one, Tanja. This was one of my most emotional reads of 2013. Carey's voice is just so real and genuine and true. I remember reading it and just being in awe of her courage, and of course, of the writer's writing. Very powerful indeed.

  12. I've heard such great things about this book Tanja! The hugely emotional reads that blow me away are always the hardest for me to review, nothing I say ever seems like it will do the book justice. I think you did a fabulous job with this review, and I really, really need to make time for this book:)

  14. I hear ya. I have SUCH a hard time writing reviews for books that I absolutely loved because I have a difficult time finding the write words to do it justice. Negative ones on the other hand... I have to watch that I don't get too carried away. LOL

I think you nailed it though. I'm definitely buying this book after reading your review. SOLD!

  15. There are very few reviews I've found easy to write, because it's hard to write a very fangirlish review, a very negative review, a very indifferent review. So yeah, I get your feelings. Anhow, I love that this book screams emotions to your face even when you read the synopsis. I'm so glad that you enjoyed every aspect of this story and I hope that whichever book you'll find yourself reading from this author, you'll absolutely adore as well:) great review, my love!
