Book summary:

"At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…"

So... Colleen Hoover. I was lucky when it comes to CoHo - I read her Slammed novels before all the hype and publishing deal, so I avoided the usual issues with books like this. Tanja and I devoured Slammed, Will is one of the most swoon worthy book boys we've ever met. Point of Retreat on the other hand didn't impress us very much, but we still enjoyed reading it. I've been avoiding Hopeless for a long time because of all mixed reviews, I have yet to read it, but as soon as I saw synopsis for Maybe Someday, I knew that it is a book for me.

I should hate them, but I can't. But first - SPOILER ALERT! There is no way for me to talk about Ridge and Sydney and not mention few very important details. So, consider yourself warned. Why did I mention hate? Maybe Someday is a story about cheating. I hate it. I hate people who cheat. If you do not love someone anymore, break up or divorce. It is not the end of the world. This should be a pissed off, ranty review. But it isn't. Not at all. Colleen Hoover has a way of getting into your head and heart and making you understand. I couldn't hate main characters because they tried their damned best to resist to the temptation. Because Sydney knows how it is to find out that your boyfriend betrayed you. Because Ridge is kind of person who always keeps his promises, even when they cost him everything he wants. You just can't resist to fall in love with those two.

Swoon and swoon and swoon again. No one can write about forbidden love or sweet, heart-melting kissing scenes like Colleen Hoover. What I liked about Maybe Someday the most is that everything isn't about their physical attraction or sex. Everything happens more on emotional level and their interaction trough music.

But sometimes everyone thinks too hard. Yes, that was my main problem. Both Sydney and Ridge have this annoying tendency to over-analyze and to think in circles. That was probably something that should help in explaining their reasoning and character development, but it was a little bit over the top. Also, not even this book escapes usual new adult drama, but at least this is a kind that won't make pull your hair in frustration with stupidity of mankind.

Who should read it? Everyone who loved previous Collen Hoover novels. Fans of "cleaner" new adult romances.

Happy reading,

  2. I do hate cheating in books, and I agree, break up or divorce before you get involved with someone else! But I guess more is at play here and I trust your judgement and will pick this up in spite of my reservations. I've really been nervous about this one when I saw your status update at 60%, Glass! I've committed to a buddy read so Lauren and I will have to do some major hand holding through this. Wonderful review! :)

    1. You have to read CoHo novels if you consider yourself a true bookworm. ;)

  4. Hey Glass, my lovely lovely Glass. I'm sorry. I'm not going to read this review. Don't take it personally, I won't be reading any reviews for this book. Everyone has already read it and loved it and is talking about it and I cannot/do not want to read any of it right now before I've read the book. Which won't happen until a few weeks thanks to the extremely long shipping period of up to 2 weeks. *sigh* Anyhow, from your rating I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  5. Characters who over analyze don't always bother me since I have that character flaw and totally understand it but I guess it's pretty annoying to read about.

    Awesome review, Glass! <33

    1. Sometimes, but it's not that bad.
I used to be that kind of person, but I've learned not to do it all the time. I'm much happier now.
      Thank you.

  6. CoHo? *snort* I like the nickname Glass! I abhor stories about cheating, but clearly you do as well, so if this one still worked for you despite the fact that cheating plays a role, then I have a feeling I might be made to understand it in this particular case as well:) Plus it sounds like the main character is cheated on rather than the one doing the cheating, and that's always a setup that works better for me!

  7. I've been seeing this book going around, but I've yet to check out the author. I've been curios about Hopeless, but I've also been skeptical. I might give this one a try instead :) It sounds pretty good. Great review!

  8. Ha! I love your passion. I wanted to hate Ridge and Sydney too. But honestly, Colleen did a great job of giving us the grey areas, and that big decisions aren't cut and dry.
    Great review!

  9. I've only read a handful of New Adult romances, and none of them have been "clean", so thanks for the heads up about this one. I think I'll give it a try.

    1. Well, "clean" compared to the novels like Beautiful Disaster, Thoughtless, Katy Evans novels... It has more young adult feeling.

  11. I am probably going to skip this one because Hopeless nor Slammed worked for me and I am not sure Maybe Someday will either :/ I mean her writing is addictive but I always end up being pissed off for one reason or another. I also DESPISE cheaters but I also think it depends on how it is presented. I mean it's the 21st century, get a divorce, break up if you're unhappy but I'd like to see more books that aren't so one sided when it comes to cheating.

I am glad you enjoyed this!

    Lovely review, Glass!! :)

  12. Cheating is very much a deal breaker for me, no matter how well explained. I was just offered this book in audio format, but I chose to decline precisely because of that. I just know I would struggle with it, despite all its good parts.
Hoover has many fans, I'm determined to see why and soon, just not with this book.
    Lovely review!

  13. I love a good romance and have been looking to get more into this genre, especially since I still haven't read anything by Colleen Hoover. The cheating would be an interesting aspect but if the author actually makes it believable I think that's a sign of good writing.

    1. I agree with that. It's not easy to make your readers get over the issues they might have with certain things.
I hope you'll read her novels soon.

  14. I love relationships that are on a more emotional level, so this sounds amazing! I'm glad this is more of a "clean" read, too. I think I'll be able to really connect with both Sydney and Ridge. Great review :)

  19. I've never really had any problem with reading books on cheating but I can totally understand why the issue frustrates many. And it's really admirable that in spite of it, Colleen Hoover has managed to make readers fall in love with her book. Again. Amazing review, Glass!

  21. Thanks for this review Glass. I have this on my TBR list. I haven't read any Colleen Hoover books yet and I had second thoughts about tackling her series but when I heard about this book I was thinking that maybe this is the Colleen Hoover book I should start with. But oh no, I definitely do not want to read about cheating. It's my number one reader pet peeve. Hmm, now I don't know what to do. LOL :)
