Book summary:
The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She’s training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And—most importantly of all—she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.
But nothing comes without a price.
Someone is murdering Shadowhunters, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second, bloody war. Clary’s best friend, Simon, can’t help her—his mother just found out that he’s a vampire, and now he’s homeless. When Jace begins to pull away from her without explaining why, Clary is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: she herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
By the middle of City of Glass I strongly believed that we're getting somewhere and that I've got to finally see why this series is so much popular. I got to connect with the characters and the whole story really got a nice vibe around it. But by the end of that book I felt that things will go downhill. I still hoped and that's why I actually picked City of Fallen Angels. Sadly my hopes crashed right away.

Please note that in the sections to come there WILL BE SPOILERS. I've warned you!

First and actually the biggest problem for me was that this one didn't feel like part of this series. When at the end of City of Glass they killed Valentine and actually destroyed the main villain it felt like an end. It actually was an end and this story didn't have much to do with everything. Yes this world is amazing. I knew that I'm glad that we got to see more of it, but not like this.

The pacing here was really slow and at the beginning this book was really boring. But what's most mostly non of it made any sense. I couldn't see the point of this book. I still can't to be honest. Once again characters started to annoy me and Jace mainly (side note: please don't compare Jace and Will any more. There is a huge difference between being douche and cocky and Jace is the former.).

Another problem I had with this one (yes there are many) is the villain. I just wonder who is next. God, himself? Valentine was a perfect villain and one who could be beaten and who is no invincible. But I cannot say the same for the Lilith. I mean the first women ever and they kick her ass like that. Really?

Now you may wonder where on earth I found that half star. Well...
Kidding, no I'm not. It's actually what I say in my review for City of Glass is my favorite couple. Yes I couldn't resist, but Malec is really what I saw as a light at the end of the tunnel. They are hilarious and it was so easy to laugh when the two of them started arguing.

But, still I'll go on and continue with this series as one of my GR friends told me it gets better. I hope so.

Rating: 1.5 stars.

Until the next time,

  1. This book was such a mess. I couldn't find anything remotely positive to say about it. Still need to read the last two book. You'll probably read both of them before me.

  2. I still haven't read the last three but I didn't have as big of an issue with them as you have. I am sorry you have had such a hard time with these.

  3. Aw sorry to hear that it diudn't live up to your expectations or give a reason to keep reading

  4. I've heard this is easily the weakest link of this second trilogy but even knowing the sequels were better I never felt compelled to pick this up. Sorry this didn't work out for you, Tanja, especially since you enjoyed CoG so much! :/

    1. It was a good decision if you ask me. Thanks, Keertana :)

  5. Dang, that's not good. I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that I'll probably never read this series, even though I've wanted to for so long.

  6. I have so many mixed feelings on this series! I read the first 3 before it was announced that there would be more and I completely refused to this one when it first came out. I finally caved but haven't yet read the last two, I just felt that it ended with City Of Glass and really the only reason I want to finish the series is for the side characters like Malec.
    Awesome review!

    1. It seems to me it all ended with CoG yeah. But I really want to see what happens at the end. Thanks :)

  7. I skimmed this review because I haven't read the rest of this series yet after book 2 (Thanks for bringing that to my attention) but wow, that's a really low rating. Sounds like it was kind of disappointing overall.

  8. OMG, I read the spoilers and I can't look away. That's fine though because I don't think I'm going to pick up this series anytime soon. It's so disappointing to know that this book is quite pointless but I kind of expected that already. And yep, you are a really generous goddess, Tanja. Thanks for the honest review!

  9. I really hope it will get better next. One day I think I should try the first one to see how it is.

  10. I never even finished this one. It was just too dreadful. I had both the audio and hardcover and I I couldn't stand to read more than like, 20%. And yet, I read the next one, and the last, and ended up giving 4.5 stars to the final book. So very odd.

  11. The next book is better, but I still am upset about this series.

  12. I know a lot didn't like this book but if you give the next book a chance I hope you enjoy it. I love Jace, but he does have his annoying moments. Great review!

  13. I read the first three books in this series way back and just stopped there. I know there were people who felt the series improved at the end. So if you keep reading, you'll let me know ;)
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics

  14. Omigod, yes yes yes. You voiced out some of my concerns with this book precisely. I hated that one of my favorite series took this turn and Malec truly are the saving grace of the series! And this "please don't compare Jace and Will any more. There is a huge difference between being douche and cocky and Jace is the former" hahaha! I l love your honest review!

  15. Oh, I didn't know this series finds a new villain mid-way. That's kinda random, actually... usually one series = one villain, and having more otherwise makes it feel, I don't know, muddled? And dragging it? *whispers* And milking it? haha. Thanks for the honest review, not touching this one!

    1. It usually is like that, and it would be here if this one ended with the 3rd book. But it did not. Thanks, Faye :)

  17. I thought City of Glass was just okay, so I'm not sure if I'm going to continue on with this series. I've heard a lot of people with an opinion similar to yours, in that they just don't think this one was a good continuation to the series. Thanks for the great, honest review!

    1. Well we'll see after the last book. I really hope it's worth waiting for :)

      Izbriši
  18. Ah, sheesh! I read this review of yours in my mail and I was totally shocked. I mean, I've only read the first book in the series, and that too was super long and never-ending for me. So this makes me question the series because practically every person I know loves the books. Well, I guess I won't continue with it now that I know the spoilers as well. Yes, in spite of your warning, I read the whole thing. And O'm actually glad I did. Amazing review, Tanja!

  19. This is definitely my least favorite TMI book, but a huge saving grace is Malec for sure. :-) I can't remember if this is the book with the babies but if so EWW *shivers*

  20. Malec is the couple I ship the most xD I realized when we get into the second half of the series that Jace and Clary kind of faded out from the light for me and Sizzy and Malec became bigger. I do think this book was worst than the others, come to think of it. But City Of Lost Souls is pretty good although the last book is pretty bad itself. I hope you enjoy it more. I am looking forward to your opinion of other books in this series.
