Bookish Problems #23: Inspiration!

Hello again! Last time I spoke about not that pleasant thing called burnout, so now I want to discuss something more pleasant and it's inspiration.

If you ask me the only good thing when it comes to burnouts is that afterwards comes inspirations. It's like you get to breath again and your words are back. After almost a month away from any sort of writing I was back today and well wrote over 10 posts in just a couple of hours. I've found my words.

That and another thing I'm curious about is what inspires you? I have seen plenty of amazing reviews and you all know how to put your emotions into words and for me that's the best thing ever. The questions is are you always that inspired?

I certainly am not. I mean my reviews go from "What was in my head when I wrote this?" to "WOW! How come I don't get this inspired in my essays?". And actually I got the answer. It depends. It's all about the book I've read. Some really inspire me and turn my head upside down. Like for example All the Bright Places that I've finished just hours ago. While I have read like three books for my classes and well judging by my marks inspiration wasn't there truly. I know I can do much better.

So what inspires you? Beautiful writing, perhaps? Weather? Tell me. I cannot wait to hear!

Until the next time,

  1. I totally feel you, Tanja! Sometimes I just spew out all the posts one after the other, and sometimes I'm totally meh and deflated. I think it all depends on the book I'm reviewing--for example, I just finished it and the book's fresh in my mind, then I'd probably have a decent review out. ;)

  2. For me, it's usually the book that inspires or doesn't. If the books are well written and leave a lot to ponder, I find myself writting decent enough reviews. But if the books are just something you take at face value, unmemorable even, I find it much harder to write about them.

  3. Yay Tanja! So glad you've found your words and your inspiration again! I agree with you, my reviews depend entirely on the book. There are times where I stare at a blank page for what feels like an hour because I simply cannot come up with something to say about a story. Then other times I have to severely edit myself because no one wants to read an extraordinarily long, rambling review:) I typically find reviews for books that didn't work all that well for me easiest to write because I have clear thoughts about them. When I LOVE a book, I can never quite seem to do it justice with my words and that makes a review hard to write!

  4. I'm so glad to see you're back, Tanja and that you've got back your inspiration. I would say for myself it would be the book that truly inspires me to write out all my emotions. I find that books that I LOVE are often my personal favorite reviews because the emotions come out pretty quickly.

  5. I am glad you are back on track. I know we all go through those periods. There are days when I dread writing my reviews and I struggle, and then other days when the words just pour out. It just comes and goes. I am always inspired by sunshine and lovely writing.

  6. Hi Tanja - Welcome back :)

Usually, books that I really enjoyed are the easiest to talk about, and then the ones that were sorta meh and hard for me. Then, there's the case when a book is so awesome - I'm sometimes lost as well as I want to do it justice in my review, Lol. But, we all get burn-out. The last few weeks having been crazy for me and rolled over into my blog life. So, I can understand with life, school or whatever - it happens. Soon though, there's a book out there waiting for you to discover and love though right?!! :)

  7. Glad you're back and feeling inspired! I go through periods where I don't feel like blogging, and usually reading something really good gets me back on track. Also it helps me to take a break and get out into the world, then I feel refreshed coming back. :)

  8. Reading inspires me--reading books, reading other posts. Talking to friends and family is a great inspiration too. Just because I'm inspired doesn't mean that I know how to put what I'm feeling into words. :) I've found that reviews are easier to write because I have a structure. Discussion posts are harder and I often feel like I'm flailing and not making any sense!

  10. Wow, 10+ posts in just a couple of hours -- Tanja, you're a superwoman! :O

Inspiration is something that comes at irregular times for me, and I honestly have no idea what triggers it. Sometimes it just depends on my mood, like whether I want write up a review or not right now (and I can be pretty lazy so that's a problem, lol). Other times stuff like looking at pretty things on other people's blogs, or reading a really well-written review can inspire me to go write up my own review and see if I can possibly impact people the way that reviewer impacted me.

The books I read play a part, too. I've been having a pretty bad reading year so far, maybe because a lot of the books I've read so far have been all three-star reads, and I don't know whether I liked the book or disliked it, so writing those kinds of reviews are TOUGH. I really hate writing three-star reviews, haha, because it's so hard to convey how I feel when I don't even know it myself!

So all in all, a lot of factors matter as to how I'm inspired. I'm glad that you've been feeling inspired lately because it has to be one of the best feelings in the world!

  11. Awww, I'm glad to know that you finally got your mojo back, Tanja! I was like that too when I resumed my blogging after a 2 month hiatus, although I doubt I could ever so 10+ posts in one day. I'm too lazy and distracted to be able to last that long! Beautiful writing inspires me, definitely. Also when a book has positive and important messages, the sort that encourages you to spread the word as much as you can, too!

  12. What actually inspires me to write a great review is when the book evokes some strong emotions, otherwise I struggle to find the words. I'm so glad you got your mojo back Tanja, you are super impressive for writing so many posts!

  13. Glad to see you back, Tanja! For me personally it’s very difficult to write a review on a book, that I’ve loved. I find myself at a loss of words and often have a feeling that I don’t make this book justice. What inspires me? Beautiful writing, wonderful reviews from other booklovers

  14. The two most difficult reviews to write are the ones for books you either absolutely loved or completely disliked. I cannot pinpoint to my inspiration for writing my reviews, or even essays, assignments and the like. But what I can is that reading inspires me to write. The more I read, the more I want to write.

What I want to tell you is that you write beautiful reviews. I've told you many times that your writing is wonderful and you can easily become an author one day, which I hope you will.
