Quote of the Week: Lovely, Dark and Deep

I won't write a classic review for this book as my girl Glass has already done it perfectly few months ago. That's not the only reason as I can talk about book regardless of the thousands and thousands of its reviews. But the other reason is that I always run away from poetry, considering it as something superficial and profound, without the possibility that my poor brain will ever understand it. Well, until I started college and my lit classes which tough me exact opposite.

When I started reading this book I understood that it's not the coincidence that it has this title. So I'll share a poem, which is extremely dear to me and from which, I assume, this title is taken from:

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Until the next time,

  2. Oh, I do love this poem. That's cool that the title came from it; I assume so too...as it would be a very big coincidence if not. haha

  4. I first though you were going to speak about " Lovely, Dark and deep" by susannah sandlin ( aka suzanne johnson) it's so strange to find book so different with the same title

  14. Ooh! Nice teaser (: ~ I'm pretty sure you are correct that the title is from the Robert Frost poem which was really lovely. I usually don't read many poems because they are always so complicated but this one was really nice.

  15. That's one of my favorite poems by Robert Frost - I'm so back and forth with poetry and I've come to realize that some poets work for me and others don't. Frost definitely does!

  17. I am with you on your opinion on poetry. My brain is poor too and never seems to get poetry. That is a really nice poem and I'm sure it's the inspiration for the book title. Thank you for sharing, girl!

  19. Ah, I have heard of this poem before! It's a pretty famous one and I remember that we studied it a little bit in our English classes among some more of his works. Nice job on sharing it. I write poetry and read it too, loving it because it can be exactly as the title says - lovely, dark or deep. Just gotta look closely ;)
