Waiting on Wednesday (#31)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme created by Breaking the Spine. Every week we post book that we cannot wait to read. Here is what we have for you this week:

Glass' pick

After accidentally unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count.

To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her shores.

In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all to change a destiny that’s been written in the stars. With worlds built just as fast as they crumble, love and war collide in an all-out battle that will leave no question unanswered and no heart untouched.

Tanja's Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Favorite Romances

Hey people. Here is another Top Ten Tuesday. As you all know it's a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Here are my picks on today's topic.

1. Aiden and Alex from Covenant series. Ah I really love the way JLA created this between them. It's sometimes so lovely and sometimes make you cry. Perfect.

2. Grace and Sam from The Wolves of Mercy Falls. Because of the writing I worship here I loved this romance. It was so poetic and lovely.

3. Jonah and Taylor from The Jellicoe Road. Maybe it was slow and maybe it wasn't in the center of events but still it was beautiful.

4. Tris and Four from Divergent series. Ah you have no idea how much I wanted to hug my book for these two.

5. Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I think there is nothing left to tell about them.

6. Anna and Etienne from Ana and the French Kiss. They're beyond sweet!

7. Ash and Meghan from The Iron Fey. Ah who wouldn't want a price?

8. Kiara and Carlos from The Perfect Chemistry. I love all Fuentes brothers but for girls Kiara is my top pick.

These last two are on this place just because of the end of their stories. But still I loved them so much

9. Anna and Abel from The Storyteller. You both are still on my mind.

10. Ty and Gemma from Stolen: A Letter for my Captor. To say that their story changed my views would be understatement.

As always I'd love to see your picks. So link them up.

Until the next time,

Book summary:

On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.
She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.
Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.
Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.
Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

Unfortunately I must admit that I've neglected the vampires lately. Well mostly stories started to look all the same and that annoys me. It happened with contemporary and other genres. Only fantasy is still there to keep my imagination alive. But still that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy nice vampire story.

But I found myself in the vampire world once again. The story starts with Sofia, the girl who is still between all the crossroads in life and when the one person disappoints her - it hurts a lot. But when the things couldn't get any worse she got kidnapped. Soon she finds herself captivated in the dark place, really dark. So dark that it haven't seen the sun in centuries  Her kidnapper is member of Novak family. That family is the eldest vampire family in the world. Now the time has come and their prince who has been sleeping for years is awake. Derek has to "catch up" with the world and at the same time battle with his needs, feelings, family... Sofia is there to help him, but some things even he can't control.

This book I've got from the author for review. Thank you Bella. Honestly I had no expectations as such, which is a good thing, because I found myself enjoying this story a lot. It was a fast and really interesting read. I must admit that now I'm really curious about the rest of the story. I want to meet Sofia better as well as the world she discovered. Then there is Drake, who is I must say is an interesting character.

Rating: 4 stars.

Quote of the Week: Just One Day by Gayle Forman

Hi. Recently I've read Just One Day by Gayle Forman and I really liked it. My review will be up in next couple of days and until then I wanted to share few really nice quotes from this book. So here they are.

You have to fall in love to be in love, but falling in love isn't the same as being in love.
I realize then that its not enough to know what someone is called. You have to know who they are.
Part of me knows one more day won't do anything except postpone the heartbreak. But another part of me believes differently. We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day.

Guest post

Sherri explains her love of football, and her favorite football team.

I grew up watching football with my dad. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan. Every Sunday, we’d sit in front of the television and watch the game.

My favorite player back then was number twenty-one, Eric Metcalf, followed closely by Bernie Kosar. It was the eighties, and back then the Browns were making the playoffs almost every year. I remember one time an announcer saying they were the winningest team to never go to the Superbowl.

That was a long time ago, of course, and I don’t always find myself sitting in my living room on Sunday’s screaming at the T.V. screen, although I do still watch football fairly often. My husband is a forty-niner fan, so whenever they’re on, he has the game on, and I usually end up watching most of it even if I’m in the other room trying to work.

While I still root for the Browns today, I’m not as dedicated a fan as I used to be. I catch games when I can, and if the Browns are playing I still cheer for them.

I’m not as emotionally invested as I used to be. It’s rare for me to yell at the television now-a-days. While I have my favorites, in the end, I like to watch a good game. There is nothing like sitting on the edge of your seat, your heart pounding, as the clock ticks down to those final seconds.
Author's bio

Sherri is the author of four novels: Hidden Threat,Slave (Finding Anna Book 1), Need (Finding Anna Book 2), Behind Closed Doors (A Daniels Brothers’ Novel), Red Zone (A Daniels Brothers’ Novel), and a short story, A Christmas Proposal. She lives in central Ohio with her husband and three cats. Her mother fostered her love for books at a young age by reading to her as a child. Stories have been floating around in her head for as long as she can remember; however, she didn’t start writing them down until she turned thirty. It has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. When she’s not writing, she can usually be found helping her husband in his woodworking shop.

Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone

Book summary:

Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett has the unique ability to travel through time and space, which brings him into Anna’s life, and with him a new world of adventure and possibility.

As their relationship deepens, the two face the reality that time may knock Bennett back to where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate, what consequences they can bear in order to stay together, and whether their love can stand the test of time.

Fresh, exciting, and deeply romantic, Time Between Us is a stunning, spellbinding debut from an extraordinary new voice in YA fiction.

I must admit that I've read only few books about time traveling and that's why I wanted to read this book in a first place. Then later after reading some amazing reviews I knew that I had to read it.

Time Between Us is a story about Anna and Bennett. At the beginning of the book we meet Anna - the girl who lives in 1995. One regular morning she was like any other day running in park but this morning she sees a guy. After she turns around he is gone. Strange thing is that he was watching her and then suddenly gone. Even though she tries to forget about it but then she sees him a school. She asks him why he was watching her and he swears that he hasn't seen her before. At that point I was wondering where is the time traveling in all this cause the seemed like a regular contemporary story. Well soon enough I discovered more.

I've read this book maybe a month a good. At that time it was an sweet and enjoyable read. You can read it in one sitting. I've heard some things about the sequel and no I'm not for it. Some things aren't supposed to be continues like this story. I'd love to read another book by Tamara Ireland Stone even if it was about time traveling, but please some another story.

Rating: 4.5 stars.

Tanja's Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Best Bookish Memories

As any other Tuesday it's time for Top Ten Tuesday, which is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. So this week we've got the task to name top ten bookish moments.

1. Meeting my girls - Glass, Zemira and Miss. I think that this changed everything.

2. Joining the Goodreads. Again I did this without even thinking that one day I'd fall in love with that place, actually the people there.

3. Becoming the co-blogger here. Well that's how I meet most of my friends here aka all of you.

4. Getting my first paperback. Uh it was two years ago I think. I've got Changing my Wardrobe from wonderful Deb and I've continued getting her books ever since.

5. Reading The Shadow of the Wind and Jellicoe Road. The two books that have the really special place in my heart.

6. Every email I got from authors. Every time when they say thank you it means a lot to me.

7. Joining the #DaemonInvasion street team. No we haven't won but I've got something more important - my street team friends. You know us...we spam your twitter feed daily. *we ain't even sorry*

8. The day when a publisher asked me to use my review for book promotion. Honestly I have no idea what happened with that but the fact that some publisher read my review it's already enough.

9. All the "read-along"s I had. I enjoyed every single one of them and I know that there is more to come in the future.

10. This one happened recently so that's why it's the last one. Few days ago me and my girls (above mentioned) agreed to watch VA movie together. Well some of us are not even living in the same country but we'll make it happen.

As always I'd love to see your top ten picks. So feel free to link them up in comments.

Until the next time,

Book summary:

Something is seriously off in the Watkins home. And Julie Seagle, college freshman, small-town Ohio transplant, and the newest resident of this Boston house, is determined to get to the bottom of it.

When Julie's off-campus housing falls through, her mother's old college roommate, Erin Watkins, invites her to move in. The parents, Erin and Roger, are welcoming, but emotionally distant and academically driven to eccentric extremes. The middle child, Matt, is an MIT tech geek with a sweet side ... and the social skills of a spool of USB cable. The youngest, Celeste, is a frighteningly bright but freakishly fastidious 13-year-old who hauls around a life-sized cardboard cutout of her oldest brother almost everywhere she goes.

And there's that oldest brother, Finn: funny, gorgeous, smart, sensitive, almost emotionally available. Geographically? Definitely unavailable. That's because Finn is traveling the world and surfacing only for random Facebook chats, e-mails, and status updates. Before long, through late-night exchanges of disembodied text, he begins to stir something tender and silly and maybe even a little bit sexy in Julie's suddenly lonesome soul.

To Julie, the emotionally scrambled members of the Watkins family add up to something that ... well ... doesn't quite add up. Not until she forces a buried secret to the surface, eliciting a dramatic confrontation that threatens to tear the fragile Watkins family apart, does she get her answer.

Few weeks ago you had a chance to read Glass' review for this book. We both wanted to read it every since and now we finally got to it. The bottom line is - we both love it. Like she said I as well think that everyone should read this book.

To list you all the things I liked in this story...well it'd take some time, that's why I'm sure I'll forget something. I apologize in advance. But really this book is probably everything I like in book. It has a wonderful story and witty characters, it deals with some serious problems but also it's not predictable. You have no idea how shocked I was after I realized everything.

Julie is new student, meaning she is about to start her college adventure. If the morning shows how the day will be then Julie should sleep the first day off. She came all the way to Boston just to attend the college. She is alone in the new city and when she arrives at her destination she discovers that she doesn't have a place to live. Luckily she has a great mother who pulls things off and soon she meets Watkins. The family who will change her life. She moves in with them and meets their lives. From the inside you see the typical family. Mother and father who are working hard with three children. Brilliant Matthew, or Matty, little Celeste and the brother Finn who is currently traveling around the world. But she soon discovers some things that will make her think. Without knowing they'll change her life.

So I believe you should find some time in you schedule and throw this book in cause maybe or probably you'll forget all other appointments for that day. Who can blame you?

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

Book summary:

"What do you want from me?" he asks. What I want from every person in my life, I want to tell him. More.
Abandoned by her mother on Jellicoe Road when she was eleven, Taylor Markham, now seventeen, is finally being confronted with her past. But as the reluctant leader of her boarding school dorm, there isn't a lot of time for introspection. And while Hannah, the closest adult Taylor has to family, has disappeared, Jonah Griggs is back in town, moody stares and all.
In this absorbing story by Melina Marchetta, nothing is as it seems and every clue leads to more questions as Taylor tries to work out the connection between her mother dumping her, Hannah finding her then and her sudden departure now, a mysterious stranger who once whispered something in her ear, a boy in her dreams, five kids who lived on Jellicoe Road eighteen years ago, and the maddening and magnetic Jonah Griggs, who knows her better than she thinks he does. If Taylor can put together the pieces of her past, she might just be able to change her future.

If I had to pick a book I mentioned the most, this one would win the title, for sure. Truth to be told I have never wrote a review for it so I promised myself one thing and it was to write a nice review for this book. I'll fail that's not a question but I'll try. It's something I guess. So here comes, well - nothing.

There are certain books that have a wonderful story and they spin your mind, and of course there are these with the most amazing writing, they also spin your mind. But then you have the ones with the wonderful writing and a magical story, those my dear friend get me to another dimension.

Few times people asked me to tell them what's Jellicoe Road about and that made me think. I for sure can't explain this story cause you have to live through it, feel it and then survive it. All that multiply with two, because there are two stories and then with million, just because. Only I can tell you some things...like this is a story about life and the ways that something plays with it. You never know what's in there for you but you won't stop until you find it. This is also a story about love and I don't mean boy and girl and their love. It's about all the types of all - the one you feel for "the one", the one you feel for your family, the one for your friends, the one for the life. It's also a story about growing up and finding yourself. This story...it's everything.

I'm sorry for not telling you about the plot or characters and yes I did that on purpose. I'm selfish and I admit it. I'll even tell you why. I love it, every single part of and I want it for myself. I apologize but that's the truth.

Rating: not needed.
