Book summary:
Rapunzel’s tower is a satellite. She can’t let down her hair—or her guard.

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker—unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.
While I was lucky enough to start this series after this book was published, I do understand how many readers felt while waiting for the next book in series as Winter cannot be here soon enough. But Cress continued to bring Marissa's magic.

Without spoiling things, even though the blurb itself is spoilery for those who haven't read Cinder and Scarlet this is a story about Cress, our third narrator girl in this series. She is different from previous two simply because she is living almost all her life on a satellite. She sees the world around her through the screen but she doesn't experience any of it. Up until things in the universe start to change drastically.

Once again I love it how the author combines different fairy tales and characters while not losing the original idea but at the same time creating something new and developing new contexts for it all. All the characters have roots in fairy tales but they are more alive and vivid in a way. From the start Captain Thorne wasn't my favorite, but then again the price from Rapunzel never was my favorite either. It was great to see how Cress and Thorne influenced each other. At the same time the story developed and the best is that this story never got boring, you turn pages like a lunatic just to see what happens next. It grips you and doesn't let go.

Now it's time to wait for Winter and the final battle which I'm really eager to see.

Rating: 5 stars.

Until the next time,

  2. I'm so glad you've been enjoying this series so much, Tanja! I wasn't a huge fan of this novel, mostly because I wasn't sold on the romance between Thorne and Cress, but I am excited for Winter to see how all these plot threads tie up in the end! Wonderful review, dear!

  4. Yep, I've heared about her being different from Scarlet and Cinder and I do appreciate that fact a lot, though I'm not sure how much I'll like her. We'll see when I get around reading this beast:) I love the story-telling ability of Meyer as well, it's freaking amazing to witness all happening before our eyes. Ha! This series and the page turning? Addicting, yes. I can't wait to see how I feel about this one and I'm so very happy you enjoyed:)

  11. I love it when an author successfully incorporates fairy tale elements into a story by staying true to the original, but also still putting their own spin on it at the same time. Guess I should probably start with book 1 first though, eh? ;) Great review!
