Book summary:

Cruel circumstances turned Curry Brennan into the wretched monster he hates and refuses to accept, but when an expected turn of events releases him from the bond of his obsessive maker, he returns to the home he knew 161 years earlier and finds the return of happiness and joy in something he didn’t know existed. Puzzled by his growing attraction to Chansey Leclaire, a human, he is unable to resist the captivating relationship that threatens to reveal his existence as a vampire. He eventually discovers the reason he was destined to find what he didn’t know he searched for and is faced with the cruel realization that the living and the immortal undead will always be separated by one thing. Eternity.

Until I arrived here, it had been decades since I had felt human touch. The Emersons’ touch didn’t feel like hers and I couldn’t recall ever experiencing a sensation such as this. The brush of her skin against mine was enchanting and I was overcome by the oddest sensation. I would almost swear I could feel her creeping underneath my skin and when she removed her hand from my arm, I felt a magnetizing pull to move with her. I resisted the urge, for fear of frightening her. Her touch was brief, but incredibly intoxicating and contagious, making me want to touch her again, just to see what would happen.
“I have a strong feeling that may be one of few things you don’t lose in this mess,” she laughed. “I’ll be upstairs if you have a problem connecting.”
She was gone as quickly and abruptly as she arrived. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, searching for her fragrance hanging in the air, but the only scents that lingered were jasmine and lavender with a mild hint of vanilla. This wasn’t right. My room was impossibly void of blood essence and that should never be the case.
I spent the next hour driving myself mad, replaying Chansey’s introduction in my head. By the thousandth time I replayed my reaction to her, my behavior still had not improved and I wanted to stop thinking about how foolish she must find me. I needed a distraction.
I was losing sun to the West, so I decided to try my luck with my camera again and I walked outside and around to the front of the house. I looked past the lawn and boulevard, toward the beach and water and couldn’t resist, so I made the short walk across the street. When I got to the sand, I removed my shoes and placed my toes in the sand. I squatted and ran my hand through the sand, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy me. I wanted to walk in the water and feel the wet sand between my toes, so I rolled the legs of my jeans to my knees and waded.
I was about to wade deeper when my intuition spoke to me and I felt the heavy stare of someone’s eyes. I jerked my head up and looked around, but no one on the beach showed any particular interest in me and I didn’t sense danger. I suspected plain curiosity, so I turned toward the house I now inhabited. I lifted my camera toward the house and zoomed in closely to the one watching me and found Chansey standing inside the dormer of Anna’s studio, watching me. She moved away from the window after I noticed her, but not before I snapped a close shot of her at the window. It seemed we did have one thing in common. We both enjoyed a little spying, but the difference was she got caught, and I didn’t.
