Book summary:

In the future, only one rule will matter:

Don’t. Ever. Peek.

Seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander just broke that rule and saw the last person she expected hovering above her bed — arrogant Jackson Locke, the most popular boy in her school. She expects instant execution or some kind of freak alien punishment, but instead, Jackson issues a challenge: help him, or everyone on Earth will die.

Ari knows she should report him, but everything about Jackson makes her question what she’s been taught about his kind. And against her instincts, she’s falling for him. But Ari isn’t just any girl, and Jackson wants more than her attention. She’s a military legacy who’s been trained by her father and exposed to war strategies and societal information no one can know — especially an alien spy, like Jackson. Giving Jackson the information he needs will betray her father and her country, but keeping silent will start a war.

    Another dystopia that has been on my radar for too long. I was somehow scared of reading it I've seen some not so good reviews about it but then one day I saw and decided it was time to read this book. I can see that overall I enjoyed this story. It wasn't flawless but it was catchy.

     We meet good old aliens here again. The weird thing for me is that most of dystopians are connected with  something paranormal like vampires and some other creatures but everyone keeps forgetting good ol' aliens. Don't be like that - you all remember little green creatures. Yeah but they're not like that here. They look like a real humans as it's easier for them to coexist with humans like that. Every night aliens visit human and there is only one rule Don't. Ever. Peak. but Ari does that. That night she discovers something that changed her completely. She never new that aliens were so close to them. Soon a lot of things start to happen on Earth and Ari must pick a side. Will she go with her own specie or maybe change sides.

      This was a interesting read for me. It had some ups and downs. Generally it has some new elements that I haven't seen before but still it has a lot of standard dystopian elements. But the main thing here is that I'm dying to read the sequel. A new world is calling for me!

Rating: 3.5 stars.

Until the next time,

  1. Gravity definitely sounds interesting but I don't know if I'll get to it. The whole don't ever peek has got me intrigued so maybe if I get a chance I'll get to it. Great review Tanja! :)

  4. I take dying to read the sequel as a really good sign, even if there were a flew flaws with this first installment. I think I'll wait and see what you think of book two when it comes out (or it is already out?) before I decide to pick this series up or not:) Thanks for your thoughts Tanja!

  7. I read an early ARC version of this and I know the author went in and corrected some things. I overall enjoyed it despite the flaws because it was different. I would like to read the sequel. Glad it was a good read for you as well.

  9. I've never read a review for this book actually. I do remember when everyone was excited about it. Aliens are still iffy for me but I do like this concept I actually always thought aliens if there ever were any out there would look like us. The fact that you are dying to read the sequel says everything (;

  10. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews for this one which has made me wary. On one hand, a LOT of readers seem to like this, but the flaws they pointed out seem to be issues I'd definitely face if I were to pick this up. I do love the cover and concept of this, though, so maybe if the sequel is better, I'll return to it. Great review, Tanja! :)
