I feel like I haven't written a review in a decade. I was so busy with my midterms, and I still am, but I had some reviews scheduled. I was supposed to write this one a while ago and I really apologize for that. But enough about me let's go to the story.

This one will be a bit tricky to review as I won't tell you a lot. Many things here were unexpected for me and if something you can't call this book predictable. We start with the Lacey and her family. For some reasons which we'll discover later her father and mostly step-mother send her to a detention center. There she realizes that running away is not an option and that she must obey the rules. She does so and in the process she meets kids there. She gets some new friends that will help her get through the day and mostly she meets Tayloe, a very sweet young boy. Maybe you'll get the typical story about extremely handsome young boy gets to like a simple girl, but then you later see that this whole story was bigger then them.

Even though I really enjoyed most aspects of this story I still had some issues with it. Starting with Lacey. She is witty and an interesting young girl but later somehow for me she stayed the same. I couldn't see her develop as a character. Then I had some problems with writing as the story was flat - I couldn't feel it. I believe with some work this story could get something really good. As it is I'd like to read the rest of the series just because I'm really curious.

Another thing is the cover. Okay no this didn't affect my opinion on the book but quite honestly I'd never pick this book by myself. If the author didn't ask me to review it I probably wouldn't give it a second glance. It tells more about me than about the book but let's face it we all look at the covers first.

Rating: 3 stars as I really see some potential in it.

Until the next time,

  1. I know what you mean Tanja, a lot of the books I read is because of their gorgeous covers. But I'm glad that Altered was able to provide a decent story, despite you having some issues with it! Great review. And I hope your midterms are going okay! :)

  2. I agree with you on the cover, it has a textbook feel to it so I likely would have glossed right over it on Amazon. Too bad on Lacey and the fact that she doesn't really develop throughout the book. She sounds like a solid character, but I like the characters to grow and learn new things as they go:) I do like that the story isn't predictable though, that's always a good thing!

  3. Good luck with midterms and studying, Tanja. Nice to see you enjoyed this overall. I totally agree with your comment about covers. This one isn't an attention grabber and let's face it, that's what usually draws us to a book at first. :) Great review! :)

  4. Aw sorry you didn't see as much character development as you wanted with Lacey. I do like the sound of her wit though

  5. Glad you were able to overall enjoy the story. I have to agree with you on the cover though. I am the worst with that. I always choose books based on pretty covers. Great review!

  7. I'm also not the hugest fan of this cover, and it sucks that Lacey's character wasn't better developed, but I'm glad you enjoyed it for the most part! I don't want to be that girl who forms snap judgments on covers, but it's hard not to. Great review, thanks for your honest thoughtfulness!

  8. Usually, these days, it's enough to say that a book is unpredictable to lure me in, and this does sound very interesting overall (the cover is dreadful though), but lack of character development worries me a bit. We'll see.
Thanks for the lovely review. And how did those exams go?

    1. Yes me too, cause I'm sick and tired of all the same stories with some editions. It's short if anything and you can really read it quickly. Thanks Maja :)
They went good. I passed them all except one which I didn't study for. But I'll get to that one soon :)

  9. Right you are about the cover! Also, I hope your exams are going well. Study hard! :D Ah, as for Altered, it does sound good and different, but then again, it seems a bit boring to me, honestly. Anyways, I love how you still see potential in it! Awesome review, Tanja! :)
