Book summary:
It happened by accident, a lottery of events…

In 1988, a blind seven-year-old lay in a hospital room longing for her mother, unaware that eight years earlier a chance encounter occurred that would shape her life.

American musician Bobby Carter moved to Manchester, England with one objective—to become a major player in the postpunk scene of the late Seventies. His quest for stardom steers him in the direction of Kindle Hyrum, whose feistiness is only exceeded by her raw beauty. Though Bobby’s steady pursuit trumps Kindle’s cheeky resistance—sweeping them into present bliss—past secrets, new temptations, and a series of hapless and happy accidents will determine their future...and the future of a blind child.

Set to the lyrical soundtrack of the 60s and 70s, A Happy Accident is a story of love and choice that transcends the ages.

First off I want to thank Sarika @The Readdicts for the read-along. I really enjoyed reading this book with you and sharing thoughts about it.  I hope we'll get to read-along some other books in the future. *fingers and toes crossed* ;)

Because Sarika is more responsible than I am she has already posted her review for this book. Quite honestly she made my job a lot easier as I see that we more or less completely agree with some things about this book. First is my feeling for it. I don't know what to thing and as always when you have some sort of love-hate relationship with the book it's hard to explain. To be more precise I loved the start of this book. It was so mysterious and left me wanting for more. As soon as I started reading about Bobby and Kindle (cool name I know) things have gotten to change. I shall say that I'm an early 90's kid and that some things here are more than weird to me. When I say some things I mostly mean on the marriage between the two of the main characters. I came out of nowhere and as much as I tried to I simply couldn't get over it. All besides that was nice - I liked Bobby's bandmates and the story itself had some good points. But some little devil thing at the back of my mind kept remember that part and I simply couldn't enjoy it fully.

I think that Sarika has liked the story better than me but still it was a nice story. It was quite different and it was nice to resolve the mystery.

Rating: 3 stars.

Until the next time,

  1. I always find books which I rate three stars the most difficult to review. I think you did a great job summarising your feeling on this one. Unfortunately I don't think this book would be for me either. Fab review Tanja! :)

  2. Ahaha, Kindle really IS a cool name! I know what it's like to have a love-hate relationship with a book and especially not to be able to find words to properly explain it. It can be so frustrating.
I'd probably enjoy this for the 60's and 70's music alone. :)
    Great review.

  3. It IS hard to put feelings into words when you have those odd love-hate feelings about a book. Kindle is a very interesting name choice, hah! I think I might skip this one, but thanks for the lovely review.

  4. Never heard of this one before Tanja! I always enjoy picking up a book for a read-along or on a blogger's recommendation that I might not have picked up on my own, it makes me read things that are out of my typical comfort zone. I'm sorry it didn't wow you, but I'm glad you enjoyed it overall!

  6. Oh I've had many of those love/hates books and characters. I totally get you on that! It sucks when the beginning is great, but things start slacking. Great review!

  7. Hahaha! It was more my confusion and exams that made me want to pour down my thoughts immediately more than responsibility. :P

I told you I'd have gone mad had I read this on my own. You kept me sane, Tanja! Never before have I read a +350 pages book in two days. You encouraged me to keep up, buddy! It was fun. So thank you!

Now, on to your review! I love it. Well, aside from the slight difference in our rating, I think we pretty much feel the same about A Happy Accident. I forgot the band mates in my review, but they were good blokes! And damn! The out-of-nowhere-this-was-a-moment-of-madness marriage. I still can't get it out of my head and it still isn't sitting down well with me. :/

Like you said, the mystery was really nice to resolve and there's more books in the series, so let's hope more pending questions are solved.

And here comes the awkward moment when my comment is as big as the review! ;)

Anyways, it was great reading AHA with you and we will buddy read more in the future. As out motto goes, *fingers and toes crossed*.

Absolutely killer and awesome review, girl! You nailed it! :*
