Book summary:
Things are getting desperate for Maya and her friends. Hunted by the powerful St. Clouds and now a rival Cabal as well, they're quickly running out of places to hide. And with the whole world thinking they died in a helicopter crash, it's not like they can just go to the authorities for help.
All they have is the name and number of someone who might be able to give them a few answers. Answers to why they're so valuable, and why their supernatural powers are getting more and more out of control.
But Maya is unprepared for the truths that await her. And now, like it or not, she'll have to face down some demons from her past if she ever hopes to move on with her life. Because Maya can't keep running forever.
Old secrets are revealed and unexpected characters make a surprising return in this stunning conclusion to Kelley Armstrong's New York Timesbestselling Darkness Rising trilogy.
When finishing a series you mostly have that bittersweet feeling. You're glad that the story has got conclusion, but at the same time it's hard to let go. It wasn't hard letting this one go, at least not for me. I really enjoyed The Darkest Powers series and I was excited when I heard of this spin-off but when you have the same idea turned around you get tired of it. So, finishing this series for me was the smartest idea.

The previous book in this series, The Calling, was a big disappointment for me, and that was mostly way I though that this series should get an ending. At the same time I was afraid that this one would be disappointment and I didn't want to end this story that way. Luckily for me, I really enjoyed this story. Maya is a character I really admire, she is strong, capable and intelligent actually she has ever characteristic of the animal she represents. Same is with other characters, not only Daniel and Rafe but Ash, Sam, Nicole and others. Ash mostly brought a lot of light to say in this story and also some new vibe which shook this story a bit. At the same time meeting some old friends was really refreshing and sweet. To connect all past memories and recent feelings was what for me made this book really special. Still The Darkest Powers will remain my favorite of two, but The Darkest Rising offered something new and enjoyable. All in all, I can say that I'm fan of both. As usual, I didn't say much about plot but this is basically sixth book in series and I really can't talk about the plot without spoiling things.

Finally, I'm really happy that I had a chance to meet some amazing characters and read about this idea in this and in The Darkest Powers series and overall I'm really satisfied with it, but it's time to say goodbye. Farewell, my friends!

Rating: 4 stars.

Until the next time,

  1. I really loved The Darkest Powers trilogy too, but didn't hear too many positive things about this one, so I avoided it. I'm glad that this trilogy wound up ending on a good note, though, Tanja. I still adore Armstrong - her latest Cainsville Series is a promising start - so hopefully this doesn't mean an end to her work. (Although I'll miss Derek...a LOT!) ;) Wonderful review, Tanja!

  6. Nice to see you enjoyed this because I want to finish this series at some point, too. I loved The Darkest Powers series and enjoyed the first book of this one. Not a huge fan of Rafe. I wanted Maya with Daniel! :)

  8. I always love when a series ends on a high note and at the right time. I have only read one of Armstrong's book in her Otherworld series and I really enjoyed it. I am hoping to read her latest adult book soon. Have a terrific weekend, Tanja!
