Book summary:

Full of rage and without a purpose, former pianist Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone discovering her past and to make the boy who took everything from her pay.

All 17 year-old Josh Bennett wants is to build furniture and be left alone, and everyone allows it because it’s easier to pretend he doesn’t exist. When your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, a hot mess of a girl who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. The more he gets to know her, the more of a mystery she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he may ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding or if he even wants to.

The Sea of Tranquility is a slow-building, character-driven romance about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.
I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.
Considering that this book is yet to be published it already has a lot of reviews that tells you something. I like many other have gotten this book from the NetGalley but I've read it just recently. I knew it would be great 'cause many said so but this was beyond great - it was amazing.

The Sea of Tranquility fits into category of books that are perfect for me. It has everything that I'm asking for. Besides its beautiful title and cover it hides an amazing story. It's a story about Nastya or how I love to call her Sunshine and her life. After some things that have happened in her past everything in her life changed. She couldn't continue with her life and it became a full-time struggle for her. She had to give up on her piano and a lot of things because piano playing was a main thing in her life. Her family though that some change in her life would do her good they've sent her to her aunt where she stats another high school. Her changes her appearance almost completely because she is sick and tired of seeing pity on people's faces. Only soon she discovers that there is someone in the school who is even better than her in that. Josh managed to create a shield around himself so everybody pretend that he doesn't exist.

After reading the blurb I was afraid for many things. Mainly the two main characters sounded too messed up and that anything between them would be destructive but well I should know better. Once you meet them and hear their stories you can't help but to fall in love with them and fight their battles with them. I know I did.

It was easy to enjoy thins as this book has everything I could every ask - wonderful and real characters, strong story, beautiful romance and writing and the most important emotions - I felt them on almost every page. Everything here felt so real.

Rating: 5 stars.

Until the next time,

  1. I adored this book! It was emotionally heavy and had a lot of tension but I enjoyed every moment of it. Just like you said, this book had everything I would want.

  8. I agree, Tanja, this was a lovely story! I loved the gradual progress Natsya made in healing and her romance with Josh was lovely. Although, I wasn't too thrilled with something he did, I eventually forgave him. I'm still a little upset about it though! Wonderful review! :)

  12. Wasn't this self-published first? Huh. Well, I remember Lisa reading it and being terribly impressed, but I knew right away it wasn't for me. I have the same fears you had, only I don't think I could get over them.
I just don't deal with angst very well.
But who knows? Maybe some day.
    Great review.

  13. I worry sometimes too that some books will have characters that are too messed up and destructive. A lot of the times you just feel depressed by their situation. At least in this case he characters are very likable. I like that the two "invisible" people get together. You've got me more interested in this story than I already was (:

I read it awhile ago, but I remember it very well it's just one of those stories that sticks with you. I'm thrilled to hear you loved it enough for five stars. Lovely review Tanja!
