Book summary:

It was all about the band, until the girl next door. Her innocence is tempting. A sexually charged coming of age story set in the throes of stardom.

About an up and coming teenage rocker on the verge of stardom, when the girl next door becomes something more, they are forced to face the harsh realities on his road to fame and the expectations of their friends and family. Sacrifices are made as everything changes, as they know it.
Let me put this differently. I've gotten an invite to do a cover reveal for this book and trailer and then I saw that this was about rock bend and it got me. Music and books are great combination and when you get a story with a nice rock bend and rock starts I'm sold.

You've got this idea. This is a story about a boy who is a member of a rock band and his life changed drastically after the success of their music. It's also a story about a girl who is a next door neighbor with this boy. They played together when they were kids but then life changed for both of then and their lives went into different directions. They still were next-door neighbors but they weren't close anymore. This was a year of great changes in their lives and they needed to find themselves.

Now when I have mentioned time and years we got to the main problem for me here. It's the age of the main characters. They are too young for my taste and I knew that I won't enjoy this book as much as I initially thought. There we got to the real source of all problems - me. So yes it was me not the book, and no I'm not using the oldest excuse just cause I don't know better, it's simply how things are here. Also don't get me wrong - this book was far from disaster. It was actually a quite enjoyable read which is not a surprise considering how lovely Jake was. Still I couldn't connect with the characters or let's say Aly as she is too young for me to get into her head and be her. I enjoyed the sweetness at the beginning of this book and not so much with everything that happened later.

All in all if I were younger I'd for sure enjoy this book more. I'd want to be Aly and dream of a cute and sexy next door neighbor who happens to be a rock star (why this doesn't happen in real life? *sigh*) but now I couldn't play my role.

Rating: 3 stars.

  2. I've been there with book characters feeling or acting too young for me. I say the same thing. The book isn't for me. I do like the music theme because those end up being the best books (:

  4. Books and music together and I'm sold too. I remember you did a Cover Reveal post for this as well, right Tanja? 3 starts is okay okay, but if you're saying it's a nice read, albeit for younger readers, I'll definitely try to get to it sometime. Lovely review!

    1. Yes I did :) You've got a good memory. Well yes if you can live with such a young people. I really can't. I'm just getting old. :D

  5. Yeah! I am glad you actually reviewed this instead of just posting the blitz post. I want to know about the book and I so appreciate that you read it. It does sound fun, and I don't know if the age thing would bother me or not. Guess I would have to read it! Thanks for the info!

  6. So now I have to discover their age somehow. But I take it this isn't NA as the synopsis makes it sound, but rather a (younger) YA? Well, that's a shame. A rock star neighbor has so much potential and it seems wasted here. :)
    Great review!

    1. LOL Yeah it's not mentioned in the blurb but yeah they're young. Okay I won't bother you - she is fifteen and he is sixteen. Well I wouldn't say that he is wasted here cause he is candy :D
      Thanks :)

  7. I remember your cover reveal for this and though the book wasn't as good as you hoped, I'm glad it was still solid. I doubt I'll enjoy it too much, but thanks for the helpful review! :)

  8. I do like rock star books sometimes, Tanja. But I'm always thinking in the back of my head I don't see how their romances work because of all the temptations constantly thrown at the performer. I don't know what age these characters are but I don't usually like reads where they feel really young. Great review. :)
