Book summary:

Scarlett Goodwin’s world is divided into Before and After.

Before she agreed to tutor Tucker price, college junior Scarlett was introvert, struggling with her social anxiety and determined to not end up living in a trailer park like her mother and her younger sister. A mathematics major, she goes to her classes, to her job in the tutoring lab, and then hides in the apartment she shares with her friend, Caroline.

After junior Tucker Price, Southern University’s star soccer player enters the equation, her carefully plotted life is thrown off its axis. Tucker’s failing his required College Algebra class. With his eligibility is at risk, the university chancellor dangles an expensive piece of computer software for the math department if Scarlett agrees to privately tutor him.Tucker’s bad boy, womanizer reputation makes Scarlett wary of any contact, let alone spending several hours a week in close proximity.

But from her first encounter, she realizes Tucker isn’t the person everyone else sees. He carries a mountain of secrets which she suspects hold the reason to his self-destructive behavior. But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos. Will Scarlett find the happiness she’s looking for, or will she be caught in Tucker’s aftermath?

Some things changed it seems. We college people are now more interesting than high-schoolers. Yeah *high fives* my fellow friends! I know I've been reading YA and of course there will be high school drama and everything but New Adult is bringing something new and I like it.

The story is about college student Scarlett. The girl who is not typical. Let's face it she math major and not good with people. She can ace every math test and do any math problem but she can't deal with people. Math is easy it has the rules to be followed and you can find a solution. Life is not like that you have no rules and no idea what to expect. The problem starts when she has to tutor the bad-boy of the university - Tucker Price. He has reputation going on - he is a womanizer. Scarlett is afraid of that, because he is the type of people she tends to stay away from. The problem starts when they become closer and their conversations more personal. She meets another Tucker. One no one knows about. He acts differently towards her and she meets the real him. Only in the process she starts falling for him. The life is complicated enough as it is and love creates new meaning of complicated.

The beginning of this story was really interesting. Scarlett wasn't typical main character. She was one of the smartest people there and she had life-goals set. But then the story became less intense and more predictable and also reminded me of another book. I somehow still hoped that some things would be different but well it wasn't met to be. Still this was an easy and enjoyable read.

  1. Bleh, is it just me, or does this one's synopsis sound like so many other New Adult books' synopses out there? I may be being cynical, but seriously!!

  2. *high five* back at you, Tanja! We college people, yay! :D
I like the title of the book and seeing as Scarlett is a Math genius, it fits perfectly. This sounds a little typical with the smart girl falling for the womanizer, but it still sounds pretty good and these are the kind of books we all tend to enjoy somehow. I'm glad it was an easy and enjoyable read.

  3. Aww, it's sad to hear that the book is predictable! I was really interested in this book but now not so much. I hate it when I can figure out what's going to happen next.

  4. I can sometimes do predictable if the story is done well. I do like the tutoring premise and something about the name Tucker lately... love it. I may have to check this one out for myself. :)

  5. I love the sound of this, Tanja. I like that these two become close after getting to know each other.

I'm wondering what book this reminds you of, though. Is is Beautiful Disaster?

    Wonderful review. :)

  6. it's great that the beginning was good but I'm not surprised that the book reminded you of another, all the NA books out right now seem to be exactly the same.
