It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’.
Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard
week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar
stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my
world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ...
Toby Morrison.
Quiet
seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She
wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun
with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is
when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks
at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.
How did she let her
friends talk her into working?
After first-shift
disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is
convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds
unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old
enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of
working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends,
forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos.
All with the one
boy she has never been able to forget.
It will be a summer
she will always remember.
Warning: sexual references, and occasional coarse language.
Firstly I have to thank Adriana over @ She's Got Books On Her Mind for hosting the giveaway for this book which I've won and also the author for sending me the book. I had short conversation with her and she is really nice person. It's totally irrelevant but it's nice to meet new authors and I always look at them with respect. I'm blabbing as always...so the review.
Few summers back there was another Summer series that I really loved. So I was really happy to get to read another summer series. I must admit that that the first one still stayed higher on my all time favorite summer reads. Needless to say some things changed - as I changed and probably I'd have another opinion few summers back. Jesus this sounds like I'm about to tell you how this book was disaster but really it's not. This story was enjoyable and sweet read.
Everything starts with three best friends Tess, Adam and Ellie. They're typical high school students. Now it's summer time and they decide to start working this summer. Tess our main character has not so bright past and her ex-boyfriend is still giving her some hellish time. But you know these kids, they still need time to grow up. The things change once when she sees the "Onslow Boys" again. They're older and therefore out of high school so she didn't have time to see them around much. Needless to say among them is her crush - Toby Morrison. Soon she and her friends become friends with "Onslow Boys" and things start to changed.
Above all this was one really interesting and nice read. The beginning was a bit slow and it took me some time to fully get into the story. But then suddenly everything started happening too soon. That was one problem and another was that sudden interest in Tesa. Like she was living under the rock for all this time and now everyone are interested in her. That sort of love-triangle was maybe good to push the story but IMO the participants were wrong but still that wasn't my decision to make. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series cause it sounds different.
Rating: 3 stars.
Until the next time,
I really despise love triangles lol And books that start off slow tend to make me not like them. But I'm glad you found some good in the book :)

Yeah me too...I remember at time when I've read only books with love triangles...huuuh!! xD
IzbrišiI've been wanting to read The Boys Of Summer since long now and I'm glad you found it to be a sweet and nice read- perfect for summer (which is here right now in India). It, however, bothers me that the story starts out slowly, but if you're saying it picks up pace later, then hell yes! I'll read it soon. :D
