Book summary:
Only a villain can save the day.
During his thousand year banishment in the Nethers, Balthazar thought of nothing but taking over the Crossroads from Death.
On the day he puts his plans into action, Balthazar finds the Crossroads on lockdown. Death has been stabbed by Brianne’s Bitterness, a blade that slowly leaches him of his powers. In order to challenge Death for his seat and prevent utter chaos, Balthazar is forced into a mission to find the Redeemer, the only being capable of pulling out the blade from Death’s chest. The only person who can identify the Redeemer is a human girl in the Crossroads whose soul is still attached to her body.
Meeting Arianne Wilson pushes Balthazar’s patience to the limit. In a deal he makes with Death, he must protect Arianne during their journey through the Underverse using all the resources available to him. He soon realizes the one he needs to protect is himself. For as much harm as it inflicts on Balthazar's body, trekking through the Underverse with Arianne is proving more dangerous for his heart and soul.
Can the villain remain a villain when love gets in the way?
It's been a while since Reaping me Softly came out. With that lovely cover and the whole idea it was impossible to resist it. Like I said in my review then this book had a concept that really had been innovative back in time. Back then I asked for this sequel not to be predictable and I got that, unfortunately some other things changed.

One thing is sure Unreap My Heart continues in the same manner. Leaving Earth and going to Underverse is hard to define. The whole world seemed terrifying and really imaginative at the same time. After troubles in the first book Arianne now has to go on a quest to try to safe her love and lives of many she cares for. Her personal tour guide is Balthazar himself. The clock is ticking and they need to survive lots of creatures and tricks to reach the thing they want the most. Balthazar power, and Arianne way to save everything she cares for.

Like I said the mare travel and the world here have been really great. I loved the picture of Underworld and different twists that seem to fit the setting perfectly. But I did have some troubles. First and foremost Balthazar. At the start his character seem to be perfectly captured. He was heartless and cruel, just the way you expect him to be, but problem started later in the story. Which leads us to the main problem - this sort of love triangle. Huh, duh, hard to explain when it was mostly psychological but it bothered me. The picture of perfect love between Ari and Nico we left in the first book was perfect made me feel for them. Mainly the thing between Ari and Balthazar was hard to imagine and feel.

At the end I must say that the ending here rocked the show! It does end with a cliffhanger but it was so gripping that I cannot wait to read more.

Rating: 3 stars.

Until the next time,

  2. I am so torn about wanting to start this series or not. I think I will wait until all the books are out and then go from there.

Great review even if you were having a hard time trying to explain it all. ;)

  3. I do love that guy on the cover. If that's Balthazar, he really looks like his name, it's perfect! And that name just gives me like this whole idea of who he is, which is probably all wrong so maybe I'd be disappointed. I'm a bit curious but I'm not sure yet I'll try the first book.

    1. Yes, that would be him :) It's worth reading for sure, only I hope that the next book won't turn into complete drama show.

  4. I wasn't real impressed with the first book in this series so I knew I wouldn't pick this up. Nice to see you enjoyed it overall but it looks like it wasn't anything you're overly excited over. I think I made the right choice in deciding against reading the sequel. Great review, Tanja. :)

  5. I won 'Reaping me Softly' on a giveaway on your blog but still haven't read it. :o)
This series sure does have pretty covers, hopefully I will soon give it a chance. And I hope that Balthazar and love triangle won't annoy me too much.

  10. Balthazar reminds me of Charmed. Foremost thanks to Julian McMahon and his role. Ahh, 'em good ole Charmed days! I'm sorry you didn't love this one. I'm really tired of love triangles as most of us are and I don't think I could take one. Again. So.. this is me.. walking away. Thanks for your honest thoughts, sweetie!

  12. Sounds like this one has some of those classic book elements huh, Tanja? Separation of a main couple and the introduction of a new possible romantic player. That's always frustrating for me, especially when I'm madly in love with the couple and absolutely do NOT want to see their feelings start to wander. Glad it had such an outstanding ending though, hopefully the next book continues as strongly and the possible love triangle dissolves quickly!

    1. That's exactly that. Yes it annoys me. I mean Balthazar wasn't bad as character at the start but then duh!

  16. Sort of love triangle? Ehh I don't like the sound of that. But I'm glad to hear the ending worked for you! I've lost a lot of patience for cliffhangers now, so I'll probably skip for now. That cover is stunning though. Thanks for sharing! :)

  17. Exactly. I mean it'll get somewhere in the sequel as now both boys are in the game. We'll see. Thanks Aman :)

  18. I usually love anything involving the underworld, but I'm dismayed to hear that a love triangle pops up! Still, glad you enjoyed the ending. Great honest review!
