Waiting on Wednesday (#15)

As any other Wednesday we present you Waiting on Wednesday. It's a meme created by Breaking the Spine and where every Wednesday we pick books that we cannot wait to read. So here is what we have for you today.

Glass' pick

For the last four years, good girl Lane has regretted breaking up with Noel Falcon. She thought she was sensible when she told him his dreams of being a rock star would get him nowhere, but now that he's a rock god and her career is stagnant, she realizes just how wrong she was. When Noel hires the marketing company where Lane is an intern, she’s forced to see him again. If she wants to land her dream job as executive within the company, she has to win him over and secure his account. Too bad Noel is still pissed at her for breaking his heart.

When Lane’s company flies her to a Black Falcon concert to gain Noel’s attention, emotions run high the moment she sees him and realizes she’s far from over him. But Noel’s countless trysts with groupies and his cocky attitude make Lane believe he isn’t the same guy she once loved—now he seems to only want her body. Then after Lane discloses she needs him to procure a job, Noel proves he’s a changed man by forcing her to go on the road with him in order to get it.

After Lane reluctantly takes Noel up on his offer, she becomes willing to do whatever it takes to keep him satisfied, even if it means succumbing to his seductive ways. Lane soon finds deception is a dangerous game and she’s not the only one playing.

Book summary:

Jacinda was supposed to bond with Cassian, the "prince" of their pride. But she resisted long before she fell in love with Will—a human and, worse, a hunter. When she ran away with Will, it ended in disaster, with Cassian's sister, Miram, captured. Weighed down by guilt, Jacinda knows she must rescue her to set things right. Yet to do so she will have to venture deep into the heart of enemy territory.

The only way Jacinda can reach Miram is by posing as a prisoner herself, though once she assumes that disguise, things quickly spiral out of her control. As she learns more about her captors, she realizes that even if Will and Cassian can carry out their part of the plan, there's no guarantee they'll all make it out alive. But what Jacinda never could have foreseen is that escaping would be only the beginning...

One of the hardest things to do is to say goodbye to a book series. Sounds lame, especially when I complain so much about every book being turned into series but what can I do. The same feeling I had with this book.

Firelight was one of those books that blew my mind. It was so good and interesting that I was so happy when the author decided to make this series. After all that waiting (some things never change is our bookish world) finally I got Vanish and then well it was totally different story. After reading it I wondered why was this turned into the series. I was so disappointed and that left me with this book. Hidden was somewhere in between. I must admit all that story about drakis was something that got me really hard from the first book. That's maybe the reason why I love this series so much. I loved all of it and really wanted for this series to have a decent end. I got that.

Hidden continues after Miram has been caught and Jacinda together with Cassian and Will created a plan to free her. They create a plan where Jacinda will be turned in and after that Cassian will be able to find her and Miram as well. But as always not everything goes by the plan so they must find a way to get out of the trouble. Not only that but also when they finally get out the question is how would the tribe react when they see them. Besides all that Jacinda still has to decide what she really wants. She wants to find the truth about her father but also that means losing Will. She cannot have both.

I'm happy that this series has got an ending like this cause the story deserve it. This book was short and nice read. Maybe if draki weren't an old news I would give it five stars. This way I'll give it four stars and a nice goodbye!
*NOTE: I do not own this gif. I've found it at Tumblr.

Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

Book summary:

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
I'd tell my sister no.
I'd never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I'd zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I'd hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I'd tell them I love them.
I wish... Yeah, I wish.

This pretty much sums my reaction on this book.

I wasn't big fan of books based on something popular or re-telling, but Fateful changed my views. It looks like Alice in Zombieland put them back where they used to be. Sad but true.

When I saw this book and heard all great things about it I expected a lot. Really it seemed so appealing that I couldn't help myself. According to the blurb you expect amazing Alice as you know it just scarier. Those were my expectations, but the question is what have I got? Basically I got same old Alice just Wonderland is not shiny and colorful, but dark and scary. Here I have problem with that scary part. Putting few dead-body parts in a book and turning characters into zombies won't make a book scary. What makes it scary are feelings, which in this case were hiding or something. I couldn't find them, they're probably good at hidding.

There is no need to tell you about Alice. You know the story. One days she disappears and after falling through nothingness she finds herself in one room with plenty of doors, but only one key. After eating and drinking she manages to find perfect form for entering the Wonderland aka Zombieland. She meets all those fancy characters and you know the rest. I've read Alice long time ago and at a time it was very dear book to me. It was imaginative and took me to another world. This book didn't do that. I wasn't impressed by zombies and rat and everything. I couldn't feel it.

It's obvious that I'm very disappointed by this book. Maybe I expected more but really I'm sad that Alice is used in this way. For me Wonderland is much interesting world than Zombieland. I hope it's just me and that you'll enjoy more than me. I really do. Well good part of all this is that there will be a sequel and I'm very curious about it. So 2 stars, just because it had some funny parts.

{Blog Tour} The Enchanted (The Gateway Chronicles #4) by K. B. Hoyle

Book summary:

"Darcy Pennington’s course was plotted out for her long before she ever stepped foot in Alitheia. Finally willing to go along with her prophesied path, Darcy returns to the magical realm to find everything spiraling out of control. A painful rejection almost pushes her to breaking, and when she and her friends finally confront one of Tselloch’s gateways, nothing turns out as expected. Darcy wonders, in the end, if there is any hope at all for her, or for Alitheia."

What I though about it...

Things are getting complicated in Alitheia. The Enchanted is much darker book than previous ones. Darcy and her friends are growing up. Stakes are higher this time.

All characters are more mature - I think it is already proven fact that K.B. Hoyle knows how to create believable fictional world. Maybe you won't find as much action as in first three books, but you'll get to learn about personal relationships, thoughts and... love. Yes, love. This book has that "hot and bothered" scenes and wouldn't you want to know about who... Well, read it and find out! I have to say one thing, though. They are sixteen years old, but compared with some other books about sixteen-year-olds, you don't have that feeling like they are trying to act as if they are twenty six.

I hope that author will tell us more about Sam and Lewis in the next book, but I'm especially curious about Dean and Amelia - they didn't get much space in The Enchanted.

And ending... Let's just say that it looks like the battle of epic proportions are waiting for us in the sequel. I can't wait!

Book summary:

Everyone knows that Chelsea Knot can't keep a secret

Until now. Because the last secret she shared turned her into a social outcast—and nearly got someone killed.

Now Chelsea has taken a vow of silence—to learn to keep her mouth shut, and to stop hurting anyone else. And if she thinks keeping secrets is hard, not speaking up when she's ignored, ridiculed and even attacked is worse.

But there's strength in silence, and in the new friends who are, shockingly, coming her way—people she never noticed before; a boy she might even fall for. If only her new friends can forgive what she's done. If only she can forgive herself.

If somebody told me how girly, teen and clicheish (this probably isn't a world, but well) this book was I'd never read it. It's simply not my thing. But I didn't know that and I'm happy for that, cause then I'd miss this great book. Which now at the end I really really like.

Everything started typically in high school. All that drama about where do you stand in that chain of beings and how to get higher is on. Chelsea is our main character but also she is main gossip girl cause trust me that girl doesn't know to keep her mouth shut (well at the begining). She is also the very best friend of the most popular girl in their generation and you know what achievement is that. Everything continues that way up until once she reveals something that leads to something big. Her words almost lead to a murder. Now after all that she goes and tells the truth to her parents and therefore she looses everything, her friends, status and by her own wish her voice. She hates herself for doing things she has done but as one of her friends says hate is...it's too easy. Love - love takes courage. Now she discovers that high school is a really big place and that at the bottom of that chain are people who aren't worthless and that it's true hate is easy but so it's love when you find it.

Even though I'm totally different person than Chelsea is still, thanks to Hannah's amazing talent, I had no  problem to get into her head. Cause that's the way Hannah's writes, not just words on a paper but also a feelings and a story that you get into it. She perfectly catches teen's mind and without problem sets all her readers into it. For me that's one amazing thing and an amazing talent. One thing is sure I'll read every book Hannah writes.

To want what you’re not supposed to have…
She is only nineteen.
She is his new stepfather’s daughter.
She is still naïve and innocent due to spending the last three years taking care of her sick mother.
But for twenty-four year old Rush Finlay, she is the only thing that has ever been off limits. His famous father’s guilt money, his mother’s desperation to win his love, and his charm are the three reasons he has never been told no.
Blaire Wynn left her small farmhouse in Alabama, after her mother passed away, to move in with her father and his new wife in their sprawling beach house along the Florida gulf coast. She isn’t prepared for the lifestyle change and she knows she’ll never fit into this world. Then there is her sexy stepbrother who her father leaves her with for the summer while he runs off to Paris with his wife. Rush is as spoiled as he is gorgeous. He is also getting under her skin. She knows he is anything but good for her and that he’ll never be faithful to anyone. He is jaded and has secrets Blaire knows she may never uncover but even knowing all of that…

Blaire just may have fallen too far.

Harmony…

I’ve previously had that in my life, but only once, briefly, a while ago. It was during the time I’d started my first year of college. My own apartment, a new old car, and a life free of deadbeat stepfathers, all of which was fulfilling enough. But if it wasn’t, I also had a best friend, soul mate, and boyfriend all in one. Yes, life was near perfect.
But one stormy night can change everything…
For many months I rested in a prolonged sleep, fighting for my life. Well, more than fighting for it, also dreaming of it. Dreaming of him. Thank goodness, the dream is over and I’m back in the real world now. And all I want is for everything to return to the way it was. But nothing’s the same; most of all, us.

Once again, I find myself at the crossroads of a ruthless battle, this time not for life, but love. Do I fight for the guy I twice fell for, or do I let her take him away?

Then a tragedy lands Rae in the ICU. Now, hovering between life and death, Rae must find the light amid the darkness…and the strength to fight for life and the love she deserves.

Tanja's Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Favourite Contemporary YA Authors

Morning all. As you all know Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish where every Tuesday create top ten list on certain topic. This week our task it to pick fave ten authors in some genre. I picked Contemporary YA. Here we go.

1. First one is I can say the Queen of this genre Melina Marchetta. Yes I know she also has fantasy series, but honestly her contemps are amazing.

2. First place was easy to pick now goes the hard part. My second place is Simone Elkeles. Even though I've only read The Perfect Chemistry series I have no doubts that others are good too.

3. Jennifer Echols is next on my list. I've read few her contemporary books and I really like them.

4. This woman would be few places up if I read more than one of her books. It's Stephanie Perkins. I loved Anna and I cannot wait to meet Lola.

5. My next pick is going to be Hannah Harrington. I've read both Saving June and Speechless and I love both.

6. Lisa Schroeder is the one that surprised me with her books. I so love her books written in verse. My fave would be The Day Before.

7. With her next book coming out soon Gayle Forman is next. I cannot wait to read Just One Day.

8. This one you probably haven't heard about. It's Antonia Michaelis. I've only read one of her books this woman is amazing. You can only imagine how much I love The Storyteller.

9. Even though I'm not her biggest fan I must admit that Sarah Dessen deserves to be on this list.

10. Some of you might be surprised cause I'm putting him on my last place, but John Green haven't blown my mind. I'm putting him here cause I want to give his books another chance.

So that pretty much it. Oh, and I'd also love to see your picks so link them up in comments.

On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves

Book summary:

When thirty-year-old English teacher Anna Emerson is offered a job tutoring T.J. Callahan at his family's summer rental in the Maldives, she accepts without hesitation; a working vacation on a tropical island trumps the library any day. T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost seventeen and if having cancer wasn't bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family - and a stack of overdue assignments - instead of his friends.

Anna and T.J. are en route to join T.J.'s family in the Maldives when the pilot of their seaplane suffers a fatal heart attack and crash-lands in the Indian Ocean. Adrift in shark-infested waters, their life jackets keep them afloat until they make it to the shore of an uninhabited island.

Now Anna and T.J. just want to survive and they must work together to obtain water, food, fire, and shelter. Their basic needs might be met but as the days turn to weeks, and then months, the castaways encounter plenty of other obstacles, including violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the possibility that T.J.'s cancer could return. As T.J. celebrates yet another birthday on the island, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

This is my first book about plane crash so I honestly had no idea what to expect. My first thoughts were connected with a TV show Lost, cause I used to be a big fan of it. Anyway I was really excited to read this one.

First things you notice in this book is dual POV which is for me an interesting thing. I like it when there are more POVs in a book but of course it means that female writer has to get inside man's head or vice versa. I think that in this cause the work is done pretty well.

As you see in the blurb we have two main characters. Anna the thirty-year-old teacher and T.J. seventeen-year-old student. Everything starts when one year T.J.'s family goes to vocation on Maldives and they hire Anna to tutor their son cause he lost a lot of school time. The reason for that is his cancer. As any other teen T.J. is not happy to spend his holiday like that cause he missed his friends and teen life. Anna on the other side is tired of waiting for her boyfriend to propose and decides that some distance between them is necessary. The problems starts when during their trip to island T.J. and Anna survive the plane crash and soon they're stuck on the isolated island. At the beginning they hoped that the help was coming but as time passed by their hopes disappeared. Being stuck there they have no other option than to find a way to survive. After few months they get into routine and their life on the island becomes bearable. But being alone leaves them a lot of time for thinking about life and everything in general. Soon their lives gets more and more complicated.

I must admit that I was really surprised with this book. It was really readable and easy to follow. It didn't blow my mind or anything but for this type of a book it really has got high rating. This book is perfect for relaxing and enjoying your read without a lot of thinking.
