Until I Die (Revenants, #2) by Amy Plum

Amy Plum's: website / Twitter / Goodreads /Facebook

Book summary:

Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love. As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

Second book in Revenants series by Amy Plum came out on May 8th and I have to say that it was much better than I expected. Last year when I read first book, Die for Me, I was so disappointed. I guess that problem was that I waited so long for this book, I read few hyped reviews and the cover... Die for Me have one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen. But let me make something clear: it wasn't the plot that I didn't like - it's quite original and whole Revenants mythology is refreshing compared with usual supernatural beings popular in contemporary fantasy novels. What bothered me the most was the stereotypical representation of Paris and European social norms.

I didn't have those issues with second book. Until I Die is light and fun book to read, ideal for lazy, warm Sunday afternoon. But here's some things you'll need while you read this book.

1. Bowl of coffee. Yes, bowl. Not the cup of coffee. You'll understand why when you read the book. Consider yourself warned so you wouldn't have to get up five times to make some delicious, steaming bowl of coffee as I had to because I was too distracted with all those vivid descriptions.

2. Two croissants with cheese. Just in case you get hungry. And you will.

3. Inspirational surrounding for complete reading experience. It would be ideal if you have balcony with this amazing view on the city (wherever you live in the world), but if you don't - find it! Go outside! Find that small coffee shop on the corner of most beautiful part of your town (with Paris-feeling). Every town have  Montmartre - go there. Or simply sit in that peaceful green park and enjoy in light breeze, fresh air and sunlight on your face.

4. Paris tourist guide book. If you've never been in Paris, you'll definitely need this. Or bring your laptop and every time some place pops up, google it! My favourite - Père Lachaise Cemetery. Talking about Père Lachaise, here's one interesting info: I've talked with Amy Plum on Twitter and she told me this:

We are curious - which is the wierdeest place you've kissed someone? Don't be shy, Tanychy and I love to hear form you guys, so leave us your comments.

Until next time,

Blog Tour: The Last Keeper by Michelle Birbeck

Do you want to know why May is my favourite month in the year? Other than the fact that it's (almost) beginning of the summer? All the best books come out in May. I'm happy that I'm part of blog tour for one of them - The Last Keeper by Michelle Birback. You have never met vampires as you'll see them here. Or kick-ass girl who protect us, poor humans, from them.

Book summary:

Fifteen hundred years ago, Serenity Cardea took the life of the only vampire she ever regretted killing—Henry, her sister’s husband. With her sister brutally murdered, Serenity had little choice but to grant Henry the only request he had: death.  Centuries later, Serenity is no closer to discovering who betrayed them or instigated the massacre of her brothers and sisters.
The vampires want dominance—over their food, the other races . . . the world. To get it, they’ve systematically hunted down and slaughtered the only ones standing in their way. The Keepers.
As a Keeper, Serenity is tasked with protecting the delicate balance between the creatures of the world: Vampire, Witch, Were, and Human. Her kind exists to ensure that no single race sways the balance, dooming the world to destruction.
They're on the brink of extinction, with no sign of return. Now only two remain, and Serenity’s last brother is facing death, leaving her standing alone against a never-ending tide of vampires, all wanting one thing: power.
Then she meets Ray Synclair, a history professor in training with a passion for centuries past, and the harsh reality of her limited time comes crashing down on her. He is her weakness. His mortality is the countdown on Serenity’s life, and with each passing second, it comes closer to the end, for both of them.
She must uncover the secrets of her people’s past and find out who betrayed them—and who is still doing so—before it’s too late.
Serenity’s days are numbered, and Ray will be drawn into a world of myth and legend, where just being alive is enough to get him hunted down.
Because the only way to kill a Keeper is to kill their partner . . .

What I liked the most and something that's unusual for fantasy novels - the first half of the book is set during World War Two. It feels like you're watching TV series about Hercule Poirot with David Suchet playing the famous detective. But with supernatural twist and immortal girl as "Poirot". It was all so realistic - from language and clothes to the social customs of that time. Second part is set in the seventies - disco music and post flower children euphoria.
Fictional world building is one of the strongest parts of The Last Keeper. There are no loose threads or inconsistencies in the plot. Same thing goes for characters. Although, I'm not sure if this novel could be labeled as romance, there is the love story - good one as a matter of fact. This is girl-saves-the-boy type of the story.
I'd recommend The Last Keeper to everyone who wants to read different kind of paranormal novel. You won't be disappointed.
Make sure to check out other blog tour stops - you can find schedule here.

Until next time,

About the author

I am a wife, mother, and hopeless romantic.
I have been told I have anger issues, but I think it’s cause of my intense love for hockey!
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughters dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, and reading the latest romance novel.
I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, and did I mention I love hockey?

Hellenic Immortal Blog Tour: Interview with Adam

Book summary:

An oracle has predicted the sojourner’s end, which is a problem for Adam insofar as he has never encountered an oracular prediction that didn’t come true . . . and he is the sojourner. To survive, he’s going to have to figure out what a beautiful ex-government analyst, an eco-terrorist, a rogue FBI agent, and the world’s oldest religious cult all want with him, and fast.
And all he wanted when he came to Vegas was to forget about a girl. And maybe have a drink or two.

The second book in the Immortal series, Hellenic Immortal follows the continuing adventures of Adam, a sixty-thousand-year-old man with a wry sense of humor, a flair for storytelling, and a knack for staying alive. Hellenic Immortal is a clever blend of history, mythology, sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, mystery and romance. A little something, in other words, for every reader.

Few days ago we introduced you with first book in the series about Adam - man who one day simply stopped ageing and he doesen't know why. Second book, Hellenic Immortal, came out on May 3rd and today we are honored to have with us Adam who kindly accepted to answer some of our questions.

1. Of all women you've ever met which one made the biggest impression?

I more or less have to pick my red-haired nameless friend, who I think we called "Eve" in Immortal, and who went by a different name in Hellenic.  I've barely said more than two words to her, but the fact that those words were separated by many centuries trumps just about everything else.

2. Why did you chose the name Adam?

To be completely honest, it was arbitrary.  I know people are going to look at it as some sort of biblical indicator or something, because that's what people do, but it just happened be the name I was going by when all of the stuff happened in Immortal, and then I was essentially stuck with it.

3. You've lived long enough to see a lot of things. Which period is your favourite?

This one, without question.  This is the most odor-free period in all of history, and when you throw in electricity, running water, indoor toilets, and data matching the library of Alexandria available to me in something the size of my hand... let's just say a few public baths, aqueducts and orgies aren't going to be beating all of that.

Maybe a couple of the orgies.

4. So, you mentioned that you fought in Troy? Was Achillies really gay?

That's a very modern question.  I didn't know Achilles personally, but by modern standards of course he was.  So was everyone else.  Most people in that time embraced a more pan-sexual approach to the world.  One was not JUST gay or JUST straight.  Achilles had close relations with men, because that was what men did, especially men in war.  But men also had close relations with women when they were not at war.  It was actually much less complicated.

5. Did you meet Elvis?

I didn't.  I was in the U.S. at the time, but I was as much a spectator during his career as the next person.

6. What do you think about books like Twilight?

They're fantasy wish-fulfillment, and I understand that, and I'm sure they appeal to a certain type, but let's be honest: no vampire who acts like those vampires do would last a century.  Even fifty years is a stretch.  I'm serious; if your emotional maturity is the equivalent of a high schooler, you're not making it to old age alive.  There's a reason Bill Shakespeare had Romeo and Juliet commit suicide.

7. Do you think you'll ever die? Are you afraid of death?

Of course I'm afraid of death.  Who wouldn't be?  I'm probably only still alive due to stubbornness and fear of death.  It's healthy.

Do I think I'll ever die?  I hope not.

8. Thank you for being my guest today! Any last thoughts to share with your fans?

Buy the books!  Gene worked very hard on them.

Author's Blog  /  Amazon Book Depository  /  Barnes and Noble

Quote of the week:
I won’t offer you a tired admonition to avoid my path. I won’t advise you to stay on the straight and narrow. I won’t suggest that you make good choices. I won’t even tell you to do the right thing. You can get that kind of advice from teachers and parents and TV evangelists, and if you are like me, you wouldn’t listen anyway.
I just make one suggestion.
Know what path you’re on.

Let Me In by Callie Croix

Book summary:

On leave for Thanksgiving, the last thing marine lieutenant Talia Barnett expects to find is Liam Brodie waiting for her at the airport. He's had a starring role in her fantasies for the past two years, and although she'd love to make them a reality, she has a dark secret that prevents her from taking things further.

A former marine, Liam's specialty is planning tactical operations, and that's just what he plans to do to win Talia. The woman has kept him at arm's length for too long, and this time he's finally going to claim her—body and heart.

What begins as comfort quickly turns hot. When Liam shows Talia a hint of the dominant nature inside him, the submissive part of her flares to life. Though she desires him, she's going back on deployment and doesn't want to dump all her drama on him. Will he find a way to break through the protective walls around her heart and convince her they have a future that goes far beyond the bedroom?

This short novel is going to make your day much better if you're in the bed - but not for the reasons you think right away when you see cover of this book - if you're in the bed all day because you have flu. Like me.

It's known among my friends that I'm a big fan of novels with erotic elements especially if they are icluding alpha males with kink for dominance. Let me In by Callie Croix will be good chioice for all of you with lower tolerance for kinkiness. This is sweet story about two friends with personal problems that are keeping them apart. Obviously, Liam and Talia will work it out. Repeatedly.

Let Me In comes out on May 21st, so don't waste your time and check it out.

if you want to find out more about Callie Croix, visit her webpage or follow her on Twitter - @CallieCroix.

Immortal by Gene Doucette

Book summary:

Surviving sixty thousand years takes cunning and more than a little luck. But in the twenty-first century, Adam confronts new dangers—someone has found out what he is, a demon is after him, and he has run out of places to hide.Worst of all, he has had entirely too much to drink.
Immortal is a first person confessional penned by a man who is immortal, but not invincible. In an artful blending of sci-fi, adventure, fantasy, and humor, IMMORTAL introduces us to a world with vampires, demons and other “magical” creatures, yet a world without actual magic.
Adam is a sixty thousand year old man. (Approximately.) He doesn’t age or get sick, but is otherwise entirely capable of being killed. His survival has hinged on an innate ability to adapt, his wits, and a fairly large dollop of luck. He makes for an excellent guide through history . . . when he’s sober.
Immortal is a contemporary fantasy for non-fantasy readers and fantasy enthusiasts alike.

Did you ever wonder what would you do if you knew you'd never die? That you are going to live forever? I know I did. Actually, I was obsessed with that concept when I was much younger. I was terrified of death (and fascinated by it at the same time) - I was a weird kid, I know. That's when I started to get interested in paranormal, mythical creatures as vampires, other religions and their believes regarding life, death and immortality. I read Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat when I was 13 by pure luck - I found it in library while I was doing research for one of my school assigments. It's not the easiest book for thirteen year old girl with issues, trust me. Immortal by Gene Doucette is one of those books. It'll left you wondering and thinking, but with aftertaste of bitterness. Adam is one of the most interesting characters I've ever met. He's cynical, brutally honest about himself and everyone around him and even cold and calculated bastard when it's necessary. If you like fantasy, but you're not big fan of popular paranormal, adult and young adult, romance novels, I think you will enjoy reading Immortal.

Second book, Hellenic Immortal, is coming out on May 3rd and blog tour starts today. Don't miss when it stops here on Ja čitam, a ti? on May 5th. We're  bringing you exlusive interview with Adam who sobered up enough to answer on some of our questions.
